OpenAI has officially announced that ChatGPT's long-term knowledge feature "Memory" is now available for all ChatGPT plus subscribers, the company's $20 per month service, in most countries. Memory allows the AI chatbot to remember things the users want it to.
In an example video provided by OpenAI, a user gives the chatbot details about their pets and asks it to generate a picture of those pets surfing in the ocean on a surfboard.

If ChatGPT is asked to look for a vacation spot, it may also provide details on pet-friendly lodging. Users in Korea and Europe cannot yet utilize the new feature, which is optional and has an off option.
The user can enter a basic fact about themselves, like that they enjoy surfing or riding an O'Neill wetsuit or Channel Islands longboard, to help the chatbot remember more about them.
Next, a "memory updated" tag appears, indicating that the data has been retained with the chatbot indefinitely. The user can remove any data items the bot has remembered by clicking on a different button.

ChatGPT Prompts Matter
According to a Fast Company test, ChatGPT's response was wholly general. When requested to assist in creating a job plan, it lacked any specific job-seeking strategies for users in their profession.
However, the chatbot produced a list of jobs related to the user's field or fields nearby after being given a prompt requiring it to create a job search plan based on the user's experiences and skill set.
This means that while the chatbot will retrieve pertinent information from memory, the prompt's language is essential.
OpenAI's Memory Unveiling
The Memory function was first made public early in February. Because of the new memory feature, ChatGPT can retain context and specifics throughout talks.
Still, because ChatGPT can now remember past talks and adjust responses appropriately, users are expected to no longer need to repeat information in subsequent exchanges.
With ChatGPT's memory feature, users can plan projects, generate ideas for social media posts, or just have informal conversations with the AI. All of these activities are made more intelligent and efficient.
One of its main features is the degree of control this update offers consumers. Users can directly ask ChatGPT to recall particular details or let it gather pertinent information by using the memory feature.
Furthermore, users may quickly turn the memory feature on or off, giving them freedom and guaranteeing their privacy. Thanks to this degree of control, users can tailor their interactions with ChatGPT to suit their interests and requirements.
Robust user controls effectively solve privacy concerns by enabling users to manage ChatGPT's memory properly. Sensitive data is kept safe since users can see, remove, or clear memories as needed.
