Apple, OpenAI Negotiations Resume for AI Tech in iOS 18, Recently Tested ChatGPT

Apple reportedly goes third-party to power iOS 18's AI features.

The iOS 18 operating system will feature new generative AI features, but it is reported that Apple and OpenAI are resuming negotiations to develop the technology for iPhone and iPad devices.

This means that Apple will not entirely rely on its AI developments for iOS 18, as the company earlier tested ChatGPT for the operating system.

Massive speculation focused on Apple's 'biggest update ever' for iOS 18, which will primarily center on AI. Apple is now seeking help to deliver more of what it wants to users.

A potential partnership between Apple and OpenAI is on the rise, as Bloomberg reported that negotiations between the two Big Tech companies resumed to integrate new generative AI features for iOS 18.

These discussions were earlier, but for some reason, they did not go through, and Apple is now renegotiating its partnership with Sam Altman's OpenAI.

According to this report, some iOS 18 tech will soon see OpenAI's developments, with several AI features coming to both the iPhone and iPad this year.

OpenAI's tools would be one of the factors that Apple is considering bringing for iOS 18, particularly for chatbot-style needs for the iPhone system.

Going Third-Party for AI: ChatGPT Tested for iOS

Earlier this year, Apple and OpenAI's partnership already saw ChatGPT being tested for iOS 18, but 9to5Mac said it was unclear if this would replace the legendary Siri.

Moreover, it is unknown if Apple will introduce a new AI assistant powered by ChatGPT, going third-party for its AI tech instead of its developments.

Apple's iOS 18: Biggest Update Yet with AI

Artificial intelligence is one of the most advanced and hottest technologies currently, and Apple is not snubbing it in this version of the iPhone operating system. iOS 18 is touted as the 'biggest update ever.'

Many speculations focused on why this was considered, centering mostly on AI features and developments to be seen significantly in the upcoming update.

Generative AI is finally making its way to Apple's system, and it was said to be happening this year. iOS 18 is the main recipient of these massive changes for iPhones and iPads.

Apple CEO Tim Cook previously teased that this upcoming AI integration will "break new ground" with Siri, Apple Music, the Xcode for developers, and more.

More answers and speculations will be answered later this year at the upcoming WWDC 2024, which will showcase iOS 18's developments. The update will arrive later this year.

The biggest update for the iPhone operating system is coming, centering on generative AI features to arrive on the device, with Cupertino considering OpenAI's tech.
