Reddit users are greeted with "502 Bad Gateway" and "Try Again Later" errors.

Reddit announced on Thursday, Apr. 25, that it has successfully resolved a significant outage that disrupted access to the social media platform for numerous users worldwide. The issue, which left tens of thousands without service for over half an hour, was promptly addressed with a fix that restored functionality.

According to The Verge, the downtime began at approximately 12:30 p.m. ET and quickly impacted a vast user base. At the height of the outage, Downdetector.com, a website that monitors online service interruptions by aggregating user reports and other sources, recorded nearly 70,000 affected users in the United States alone.

It should be noted that the latest outage was not confined to the United States; Reddit users from other countries, including the UK and India, experienced similar problems. The widespread nature of the issue highlights the global reach of Reddit and the broad impact such an outage can have on its international community.

As per Bleeping Computer, Redditors who access the website are greeted with errors showing "Unknown server error," "502 Bad Gateway," and "Try Again Later."

Meanwhile, users of the mobile version of the app reportedly encountered an "Error: Choose failed. Missing field 'user_id'" error.

At the time, the platform said that its engineers were monitoring the source of the outage to determine whether there was a potential glitch in the web server configuration.

Reddit Swiftly Solved the Annoying Outage

Reddit quickly addressed the outage, deploying a fix that brought the platform back online. The company confirmed the resolution by updating its status page, assuring users that the platform was operational.

The front page of the internet also experienced an outage in June 2023. The root cause of the downtime was the subreddit protests against API policy.

According to Tech Times, Redditors and several communities joined forces to launch a dark protest against the platform regarding the unfair API changes. It appeared that Reddit did not care about their concerns. It did not even have an answer about the revisions it would do concerning the new API policy.

In other news, Reddit ads became available when the new format was introduced. From their looks, they could pass as a regular post with upvotes and comments.

While Reddit ads have no issue with other users, they did not sit well with some Redditors. According to them, the ads could invade their privacy by gathering private data across the platform.
