After testing for six months on its web and iOS platforms, Truth Social is now set to roll out a live TV streaming service. This platform aims to provide a safe space for quality news and entertainment content that's often sidelined on other channels and services.
Truth Social Ventures into Live TV Streaming
Former President Donald Trump's Truth Social is gearing up to launch a live TV streaming service. This move marks a significant expansion for the platform, which aims to provide an alternative space for content that may face censorship or cancellation elsewhere.
The focus will be on delivering diverse programming, including news networks and religious channels, catering to audiences seeking different perspectives. Moreover, Truth Social aims to offer a range of "family-friendly" content, including movies and documentaries, to appeal to a wider audience base.
This strategic move underscores Truth Social's commitment to providing a platform for free expression and diverse viewpoints in the digital media landscape, as reported by TechCrunch.
The streaming service will be launched in three stages. Initially, the company intends to introduce Truth Social's content delivery network for streaming through the Truth Social app, available on Android, iOS, and the web.
Following this, Truth Social plans to roll out over-the-top (OTT) streaming apps for various devices, including phones, tablets, and more. The final phase of the rollout will see the launch of a streaming app specifically designed for TVs.
According to the Trump Media & Technology Group, the streaming service has undergone six months of testing on its web and iOS platforms and has completed the research and development phase.
TMTG CEO Devin Nunes expressed enthusiasm for advancing to the next significant phase for Truth Social, emphasizing the platform's aim to provide a permanent home for high-quality news and entertainment content that faces discrimination on other channels and content delivery services.
Navigating Challenges in Truth Social's Evolution
Last month, Truth Social made its public debut following shareholder approval of the merger between TMTG and Digital World Acquisition, a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC). However, the company's stock took a hit this week after announcing plans to sell additional shares to bolster its finances.
Despite its substantial valuation, TMTG faces financial challenges. In 2023, it recorded a net loss of approximately $49 million, with revenue just shy of $4 million. According to data from Appfigures, Truth Social has garnered nearly seven million downloads across the iOS App Store and Google Play.
This comes as Elon Musk's X shifts its focus towards transforming the social media platform into a "video-first" space promoting free speech. Currently, the network showcases original programs hosted by former congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard and former Fox Sports host Jim Rome.
However, Musk recently scrapped a talk show agreement with former CNN anchor Don Lemon following his interview on the show's inaugural episode.
