YouTube Introduces Multiview for Coachella 2024
YouTube's official livestream of this year's Coachella music festival brings a new feature that might ring a bell for football fans. It's called Multiview, and it lets you watch several livestreams on one screen while sticking to just one audio feed.
And here's the kicker: you don't even need a YouTube TV subscription to access it. Like the NFL Sunday Ticket's Multiview feature lets you keep tabs on four different games simultaneously, Coachella's version will allow you to keep an eye on up to four stages simultaneously.
You can easily switch between audio feeds and go in and out of fullscreen mode. And with six feeds (or six stages) available, you'll have plenty to choose from. The festival spans two weekends: April 12th through 14th and April 19th through 21st.
For the past 12 years, YouTube and Goldenvoice, the organizers of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, have maintained an exclusive partnership for content streaming. This collaboration allows fans worldwide to enjoy both weekends of the renowned music festival via YouTube's official channel, completely free of charge.
Impact on Online Audience
While YouTube pays a licensing fee to feature the festival's exclusive livestream, it reaps the benefits of the substantial ad revenue generated by such a highly anticipated event.
Iconic performances like Beyoncé's electrifying two-hour set at Beychella in 2018 or Blackpink's rendition of "Typa Girl" last year have the potential to accumulate millions of views and dominate social media discussions for weeks on end.
As sales for the 2024 Coachella event lag behind, the festival finds itself in an unprecedented position, relying heavily on garnering additional attention this year. Vulture observed that nearly four months after ticket sales opened, passes for Weekend 2 remain accessible on Coachella's official website.

Moreover, both general admission and VIP tickets for both weekends are available on third-party resale platforms. Such a scenario is uncommon for the typically high-demand festival in Indio, California, where tickets traditionally sell out within hours or days of release.
Several conjectures have surfaced regarding the sluggish ticket sales for this year's Coachella, attributing factors such as exorbitant prices, perceived lineup quality, and a prevailing sense of festival weariness.
Consequently, a significant portion of Coachella's typical attendees appears to be abstaining from the festivities this year, whether due to diminished enthusiasm or financial constraints.
Whether this decline in physical attendance will lead to a surge in online viewership from YouTube audiences, who remain intrigued enough to stream Coachella, remains uncertain.
