WhatsApp's Instagram-Like Button For Emoji Reactions is in the Works

Just fewer steps to react to your friend's status update.

Meta's WhatsApp has undergone numerous updates and Meta seriously wanted to transform it from a simple to a game-changing platform.

According to recent reports, the messaging app is adapting what is currently present on Instagram. Soon, we can use emoji reactions on status updates.

The latest beta testing of WhatsApp further confirms that it wants to integrate Instagram-like functionalities, making it easier to react to your friend's pictures or videos.

WhatsApp is Borrowing Status Update Reactions from Instagram

Responding to status updates on WhatsApp has traditionally involved textual replies or selecting from a limited set of generic emojis. In contrast, Instagram offers a more streamlined experience with a prominent Like button that instantly sends a heart emoji reaction. X insider @AssembleDebug was the one who spotted this feature.

Recognizing the efficiency of this approach, WhatsApp is now testing a similar Like button feature for status updates. The inclusion of this feature aims to simplify interactions with contacts' status updates, enhancing user engagement.

Emoji Reactions for Media in Chats: A New Addition

Reacting to photos and videos shared in WhatsApp chats currently requires navigating through multiple steps, making the process cumbersome.

WhatsApp is addressing this issue by introducing Instagram-style emoji reactions for media shared in conversations.

According to Android Police, a new Reply bar with an Emoji button will be visible even during full-screen media playback, allowing users to easily select from a variety of emoji reactions. This enhancement is expected to streamline conversations, particularly in group chats and discussions involving images.

Enhanced User Experience: Simplifying Interactions

The integration of Instagram-like features into WhatsApp reflects Meta's strategy of unifying its social media platforms and enhancing user experience across its ecosystem. By borrowing successful functionalities from Instagram, WhatsApp aims to provide users with familiar and intuitive ways to interact with the app. These updates are designed to facilitate seamless communication and establish deeper engagement among users.

Blurring the Line Between WhatsApp and Instagram

While the Like button for status updates and emoji reactions for media in chats are currently in beta testing, their widespread availability is imminent. WhatsApp users can look forward to a more cohesive experience that combines the best features of both WhatsApp and Instagram.

As Meta continues to blur the lines between its social media platforms, users can expect further integration and innovation to enhance their messaging experience.

In other news, Phone Arena reports that Google Chat might borrow the "Announcements" feature from WhatsApp. The new rumor points out that a user can send a message to a big audience-something that we usually see when someone has an announcement over a megaphone.

Elsewhere, Whatsapp's chat lock feature for linked devices is currently in the works. At the time, it's still not available for public testing.
