Xiaomi's newest electric vehicle model, the SU7 electric sedan, will reportedly take up to seven months before being delivered to buyers, as per a notice in the Chinese tech giant's application.
After announcing the car's starting price of $29,870, Xiaomi started accepting orders for its SU7 electric vehicle sedan on Thursday. Pre-orders reportedly reached 88,898 on the first day on Friday night.
When Reuters reportedly checked Xiaomi's vehicle app on Monday, the company said that delivery times for the SU7 regular model could be between 18 and 21 weeks, for the SU7 Pro model, they could be between 18 and 21 weeks, and for the most costly model, which costs 299,900 yuan, they might be between 27 and 30 weeks.

Xiaomi also unveiled two further limited-edition "Founder's Edition" models of the automobile, which include free items like refrigerators, as part of the campaign to start sales. When it opened for orders on Thursday, the initial batch of 5,000 of these automobiles sold out right away.
Co-founder and CEO Lei Jun announced on Weibo on Sunday that a second round of sales for the Founder's Edition would begin, though he did not disclose the price. Additionally, he stated that Xiaomi detected and prevented several unusual orders, including those from scalpers, during the Founder's Edition ordering process.

Xiaomi's EV Push
After introducing the SU7 as a foray into the EV market, Xiaomi now faces off against BYD, Nio, Xpeng, Li Auto, and Tesla, the industry leader. Notably, Xiaomi's pricing approach places the SU7 in a competitive market against the Model S and Model 3 of Tesla, which have starting prices of 698,900 and 245,900 yuan, respectively.
The SU7 has remarkable driving ranges; one model can travel up to 668 km (415 miles) on a single charge, which is more than the 650 km range of the Model S from Tesla. An even longer range of up to 800 kilometers is available in another version.
Xiaomi proves to only be moving forward with its EV push, after promising a significant investment as part of its diversification initiatives, allocating $10 billion over the course of ten years to its automotive ventures. With an annual capacity of 200,000 vehicles, a unit of state-owned manufacturer BAIC Group produces Xiaomi's vehicles.
BMW in the EV Industry
The release of Xioami's newest electric vehicle (EV) comes just a few weeks after BMW introduced the BMW Vision Neue Klasse X, demonstrating the company's bold entry into the electric car market and direct challenge to Tesla's market supremacy.
Oliver Zipse stressed that the launch of the BMW Vision Neue Klasse X represents a reinterpretation of the BMW brand and the company's dedication to transforming drivetrain dynamics.
The platform is designed to improve driving pleasure, efficiency, kinetics, and precision. The Neue Klasse X is distinguished by its state-of-the-art drive and chassis control system, which is powered by an exclusive software stack that BMW internally developed. This cutting-edge solution combines driving dynamics and powertrain seamlessly to improve the driving experience.
