Walmart's Health Clinic Expansion Targets 70 More Sites Nationwide by 2024 Year-End

Walmart accelerates healthcare expansion, aiming for 70 clinics by 2024's end.

Walmart is ramping up its healthcare offerings with plans to expand its health clinic network to 70 sites across the United States by the end of 2024, the Forbes reports.

The retail giant, which currently operates 48 Walmart Health centers in five states, aims to enhance accessibility to healthcare services for its customers.

Walmart Health Clinic Expansion

The expansion initiative includes the opening of the first Walmart Health facility in Texas next month, followed by the addition of 22 new locations in 2024. Walmart is focusing on deepening its presence in Texas while also venturing into Missouri with new sites.

The company aims to provide convenient, personalized healthcare services encompassing multiple service lines, delivered by a team of board-certified providers.

"With this growth in 2024, we will nearly double our current footprint, offering accessible, convenient, and affordable care in two new states and expanding our presence in Texas to help the communities we serve live better, healthier lives," said Dr. David Carmouche, Walmart's senior vice president of healthcare delivery.

This expansion comes amidst growing competition in the healthcare sector, with Amazon expanding its doctor-staffed One Medical Clinics and CVS Health investing heavily in medical care provider operations. Unlike some competitors, Walmart emphasizes a measured approach to expansion, considering the unique needs of each community.

Walmart will require shoppers to wear face masks starting next week, the US retail giant announced on July 15, joining an increasing number of businesses in mandating the protection amid the latest spike in coronavirus cases.

The New Walmart Health Centers

According to the company, the new Walmart Health centers will be approximately 5,400 square feet in size and will be located inside Walmart Supercenters. They will offer a range of services including primary care, dental care, behavioral health, labs and X-ray, and telehealth services.

Walmart's commitment to healthcare expansion was evident in its announcement last year, where it revealed plans to open 28 new healthcare centers in 2024, including expansions into Missouri and Arizona. By the end of 2024, Walmart expects to have over 75 Walmart Health centers across the United States.

With 90% of the US population located within 10 miles of a Walmart, the company believes it is strategically positioned to provide quality, affordable health and wellness services where customers already shop.
