Iterate.AI, a Silicon Valley artificial intelligence tech company, is reportedly offering schools AI-powered gun detection technology as a new way to help protect its students and detect firearms within campuses.
A few years ago, the company built it for a customer who was having theft issues in their stores. However, they recognized that it might be useful for detecting guns in schools using security cameras already installed.
Executives at Iterate.ai claim they merely wish to safeguard kids. Pushing for its installation, Matt Frary of Iterate.ai claims that people need to figure out how to protect their kids, and by using this technology, they can implement it "quickly and cheaper."
According to Frary, several institutions in the Bay Area are interested in implementing the technology nationwide.

Chief Technology Officer Brian Sathianathan claims that Iterate.ai is compatible with the majority of surveillance cameras now in use, according to a previous story from USA Today.
He continues by saying that most system administrators can easily add the Python code to their computer server using their software, which will set up all of the cameras to start detecting firearms in a matter of hours.
When it detects a weapon, the system automatically sends a notification text message, email, Apple alert, or other signal.
The technology recognizes semi-automatic firearms and handguns. According to Sathianathan, it can also identify visible Kevlar jackets and blades at least six inches long. The report adds that even if a gun is only partially visible, Iterate.ai's systems can detect it.

AI Gun Detection Industry
The company is not alone in the market for AI-powered gun detection technology; Wave Welcome, a Maryland startup, is also reportedly addressing the epidemic of gun violence in America with a system that it claims can notify law enforcement of an armed intruder and provide a livestream before any bystander dials 9-1-1.
According to the software business creating real-time firearm identification technology, the AI system can visually identify firearms and move to notify law enforcement when it is granted access to private or public surveillance cameras.
The corporation then uses drones to pursue an active shooter. According to its creator and CEO, Vennard Wright, the goal is to lessen the quantity and severity of active shootings in the United States.
AI Detection with Human Assistance
PerVista, Wave Welcome's AI gun detection initiative, operates by continuously comparing images of firearms from IP-enabled security cameras.
If the system detects the presence of a weapon, Wave Welcome and the client's predesignated security guards and teachers at a school, for example, automatically receive SMS texts, email notifications, and video footage.
To prevent emergency services from being called in for false positives, Wave Welcome staff visually verify the existence of a handgun through the camera stream before notifying the police.
