NVIDIA's CEO Jensen Huang predicts that fully AI-generated games are a real possibility 5 to 10 years from now when asked about the likelihood that gaming will take place in a world where all pixels are created in real-time, as well as his vision for the genre.
According to the CEO, he anticipates a time when AI technologies driven by GPUs may finally complete the circle and be used to create computer visuals.
He clarifies that, with early attempts perhaps appearing within five years, an AI-generated game future could materialize within the following ten years.

According to sources, the CEO believes AI might become sophisticated enough to create games on its own, right down to the last pixel.
Huang's predictions come at a time when AI generation has advanced significantly in recent years, starting with prompt-based image generation and continuing with recent advancements in fully AI-generated video.
Huang made these remarks as NVIDIA continues to advance its use of AI in video games. The AI chipmaker most famously demonstrated how developers of video games are using its "digital human" AI technologies to enhance the speech, motion, and voices of their characters.

AI and Videogames
The tech giant unveiled a preview of Covert Protocol at the 2024 Game Developers Conference (GDC). With AI technologies, non-playable characters (NPCs) can react dynamically to player interactions and provide a range of replies tailored for in-game gameplay, as demonstrated by the playable tech demo Covert Protocol.
Assuming the character of a private investigator, players in Covert Protocol carry out missions that are decided by their encounters with AI-driven NPCs.
Typically, when players engage with NPCs, they only have a limited number of jobs to complete, but when applied with generative AI, NVIDIA proves that is no longer the case. The demo highlights that as players' in-game actions impact the game's results, every playthrough presents a unique experience.
Video Game Technology
Moreover, Nvidia showcased its Audio2Face technology in a preview of the massively multiplayer game World of Jade Dynasty. Character lip-syncing to Mandarin Chinese and English speech was demonstrated here, demonstrating Audio2Face's ability to support multilingual game creation without requiring manual character reanimation.
Furthermore, a clip from the action combat game Unawake shows off how Audio2Face improves face motions in both gameplay and cinematic scenes.
Game developers are reportedly already extensively using AI technology. Nearly a third of developers surveyed at the Game Developers Conference, which included over 3,000 developers, said they already use AI at work.
Workers in the narrative department were among the least likely to utilize it, but those in business and marketing were the most likely.
