Roblox is reportedly venturing deeper into AI with its new "Avatar Auto Setup" and "Texture Generator" AI technologies. A pair of technologies that makes 3D Modeling simple, automatic, and fast. The new AI technologies were unveiled during the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2024 in San Francisco.
Roblox claims that its Avatar Auto Setup automatically transforms a 3D body geometry into a live, animated avatar that users may adopt, simplifying the avatar creation process.

According to the company, Auto Setup can automatically rig, cage, segment, and skin 3D models with just one click, finishing in a matter of minutes what used to take people days. The goal of the first alpha release is to provide Roblox Studio creators with this tool and eliminate hours of tedious labor.
A demo was reportedly used to showcase the Avatar Auto Setup. The AI tool was demonstrated to process a baby-faced mannequin for avatar use. The model's newly generated attachment points for Roblox cosmetics allow it to be slapped with a set of garments before showcasing its automated rigging with a typical running animation.

Roblox's AI Texture Generator
Conversely, Roblox's "Texture Generator" lets developers instantly alter the appearance of 3D objects via text prompts. Creators can quickly experiment with different looks for their experience, easily create new textures, and streamline workflows with the "texture generator."
When a creator requests assistance creating a texture for a 3D wooden treasure chest, Roblox claims that the "texture generator" can automatically produce a texture that highlights the sharp edges of the chest and takes into account details like the wooden planks and lock.
As an alternative, constructing gold, silver, and bronze trophies is a simple way for a maker to create numerous versions of an object in different colors and textures.
Similarly, Roblox displayed several 3D models with textures generated via the recently released prompt-based Texture Generator. With the input "designer backpack, weathered red leather," a 3D mesh of a backpack is skinned, and the texture that is produced looks much like aged red leather.
Roblox's AI Tools
Roblox's new 3D modeling AI tools follow the company's recent venture into AI-powered translations in its platform. Last February, Roblox announced the release of their new multilingual translation tool.
The goal of the new AI technology is to eliminate linguistic barriers worldwide. Additionally, this tool claims to provide better translations with real-time functionality, allowing users to see the translated content immediately without realizing that Roblox's AI system has already done the translation work for them.
According to Roblox, there is a 100-millisecond delay in translation, something that users might not even notice. The AI translator supports dialects in 16 languages.
Roblox also reportedly unveiled its new conversational AI assistant last year, which is meant to make it easier for artists to create experiences for the well-known social media platform. With the aid of generative AI, users can now write code and create virtual assets with the Roblox Assistant.
