Rivian EVs and their owners may now access Tesla Superchargers for a fast-charging experience on its stations country-wide, utilizing the NACS (North American Charging Standard) to replenish the battery. This announcement came a year after it announced its 2024 adoption of Tesla's NACS, adhering to this standard set out by its rival EV company amidst an industry-wide change.
Soon, all Rivian owners may be able to access Superchargers when they receive their free NACS adapter from the company.
Rivian EVs May Now Charge from Tesla Superchargers
A new announcement from Rivian on X shared that its EV owners may now access Tesla's Superchargers available in the North American region, including the stations both in the United States and Canada. It is now available to all of its owners for the available models from the company, including the R1T electric pickups and the R1S electric SUVs.
It follows the company's announcement last year that it was among the early brands to adopt the Tesla NACS and signed a partnership with the Musk-owned EV corporation.
Rivian also shared a photo of the Tesla Superchargers available to access in the NA region while also showing the locations of its Adventure Network for its EV owners to use.
Free Adapters Coming for Each Rivian Owner
Rivian also said that it will soon send out the free NACS adapter for its existing EVs' CCS ports, which it was originally using.
After getting these adapters, users may access the 15,000 Tesla Superchargers available in North America alongside the 16,000 fast charging stations that were originally accessible to their users.
Tesla NACS: An Industry-Wide Standard
Elon Musk's vision for electric vehicles in America is to use one charging standard that can deliver a fast-charging experience through its NACS connector. In 2022, Tesla and the tech billionaire shared its EV charging connector design with the industry, positioning it as the next standard in the North American region for industry-wide adoption.
A year later, it became a reality for Musk and Tesla, as companies like Ford, General Motors, and Volvo were among the first to confirm their adoption of the NACS.
It was not long until this tech adoption was followed by other car brands, including Rivian, BMW, Mini, Rolls-Royce, Mini, Toyota, and more, joined the change.
While many companies have yet to announce their adherence to the new charging standard, it is already close to being an industry-wide adoption, with many starting their access this year. Ford was the first to get the green light for this shared charging experience, now followed by Rivian, which is rolling out its free adapters to enjoy the fast-charging features of the Tesla Supercharger stations.
