Get ready as Discord is looking to bring more games and apps for all chats in its platform as it announced the upcoming arrival of its new development SDK platform. Through this, it gives developers a chance to usher in new experiences and features on its platform, one that directly embeds these new experiences into the platform as part of its updates.
Previous tests by Discord looked into more integrations for new experiences on its instant messaging app, initially found in the Activities feature.
Discord is Bringing More Games and Apps to Chat
According to a new press release from Discord, the time is coming for when it will release new games and apps directly onto its chats with the arrival of the Embedded App SDK. Through this feature, users may be able to access various games and apps directly on the platform, one that is embedded in an iframe within the platform, sharing the experiences with all.
Through the addition of this feature, new apps and games are expected from developers to deliver on the platform, with examples like directly embedding YouTube, sharing a live activity, and more.
The available Activities now present this experience for Discord as a start, but more are coming in the future as the platform is opening this directly on the Developer Portal.
New Development SDK for Devs on Discord
The new Embedded App SDK will give developers a chance to build new experiences directly onto the Discord chat platform, and here, they may also get monetized for their work. Moreover, Discord is also inviting devs who have massive ideas for this experience, promising funding that they will provide for its development through the Discord App Pitches program.
Discord and its Social Messaging Platform
Last year, Discord had a massive revamp of its many experiences, available in the many platforms it is available like the mobile, PC, smart TVs, and consoles. Through this Fall release, the company prioritized a new experience with the familiar Discord platform for its growing 150 million monthly subscribers with new features like Remix for making memes, Nitro subscriber perks, and more.
Additionally, Discord released an update for its mobile experiences on both iOS and Android, featuring a faster load time for the platform overall. While this centered on limiting the free file uploads to 25MB only, it helps keep the app fresh and more reliable, one that integrates more of a mobile experience rather than its initial retrofitted version that removed the mouse and keyboard peripherals.
With its rise to fame at the start of this decade, Discord is looking to grow more of the platform with intuitive new features to provide its users with an all-in-one social platform. The new development SDK will arrive next week, allowing developers to enjoy the introduction of new games and apps that expand more of the Discord experience for all users.
