Last week on tech saw massive changes in the EU's DMA, as fulfilled by Apple on its end, but one of the most significant events was the ban and reinstatement of Epic Games' developer account on the App Store. It also saw the RESTRICT Act's progress, with the US Congress getting ready for its House floor vote, with President Joe Biden saying that he will sign it into law once it passes.
Moreover, there is also NASA's CADRE program which is getting ready to send the tiny, autonomous rovers to the Moon for its upcoming exploration.
Apple Reinstates Epic Games's Dev Account on the App Store
The massive events of the European Union's Digital Markets Act (DMA) taking effect saw Apple banning and reinstating Epic Games' developer account in the region, on its App Store. This came after the ban which Epic claimed to be because of several issues, with one highlight of it being its CEO's, Tim Sweeney, posts on X which criticized Apple's adherence to the law.
Apple said that it had talks with Epic Games regarding this, and the company is "committed to following the rules" and working out its relationship moving forward.
This means that the Epic Games Store is back on the App Store for people to download, and here, they may also get what the company has to offer, including the sideloading of its famed battle royale, Fortnite.
TikTok Ban: President Biden to Sign the RESTRICT Act
The progress of the so-called bill that may be the reason behind the TikTok ban is moving forward, with President Joe Biden's latest comments claiming that he will sign it once it passes the Congress vote. In the POTUS' words, "If they pass it, I'll sign it" confirms that the leader of the country is only waiting for Congress to fulfill its job and present it as a law to be finalized by Biden.
It centers on the recent 50-0 unanimous vote by the US Representatives that awaits its final step with a House floor vote that would pass the RESTRICT Act to the President.
While it is not an outright ban on TikTok, this would then have agencies mark the social media as a foreign entity alongside the threats it brings. Moreover, it would require the social media to fully cut off its ties with its Chinese ownership, ByteDance, in 180 days.
NASA's Tiny, Autonomous Rovers Coming to the Moon
NASA confirmed the completion of its tiny and autonomous Moon rovers which passed its development and testing phase last week. This signals a massive step towards the agency's efforts that will explore more of the natural satellite and would require less supervision and control, unlike earlier remote-controlled rovers like Curiosity and Perseverance.
This was made under the Cooperative Autonomous Distributed Robotic Exploration (CADRE) program, with each rover featuring four wheels, approximately the size of a carry-on bag, navigation sensors, two stereo cameras, and a multi-static, ground-penetrating radar that will help map out the Moon in 3D.
Joining the Intuitive Machines' Nova-C lander in its IM-3 mission, three CADRE rovers will make their way to the lunar surface and begin their mission.
