Jake Paul Takes on Iron Mike Tyson in Netflix's Blockbuster Boxing Event

Here's what to know about the epic showdown.

It's official: Logan Paul will face the legendary Mike Tyson in a mega boxing event announced by Netflix, generating excitement among sports fans. The fight is made possible through the partnership between the streaming giant and Most Valuable Promotions. The Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson bout is set to stream exclusively on Netflix on July 20, live from the 80,000-seat AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys.

Jake Paul (9-1, 6 KOs), a popular YouTuber, faces his most anticipated fight to date against one of the greatest and most dangerous fighters in boxing history, Mike Tyson (50-6, 44 KOs).

Paul's recent victories include sensational knockouts against professional boxers Ryan Bourland and Andre August on March 2 and December 2023, respectively.

Expressing excitement about the upcoming match, Jake Paul, 27, noted that he sees it as an opportunity to prove himself against Tyson. "This will be the fight of a lifetime," he said, per Netflix's media release.

Fans Want To See Tyson KO Paul

Tyson, known as the "Baddest Man on the Planet," expressed what fans can expect from the upcoming fight, "It's a full-circle moment that will be beyond thrilling to watch, as I started him off on his boxing journey on the undercard of my fight with Roy Jones, and now I plan to finish him."

"Iron Mike" reigned as the undisputed world heavyweight champion from 1987 to 1990. He boasts a remarkable record with 37 consecutive victories, 33 of which were knockouts.

Mike Tyson announced the fight on his Facebook page, by posting the official poster of the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson event with the caption, "We signed the contract." In the comments section, fans expressed their support for the legendary boxer from New York. One user named Alastair Hood commented, "Please humiliate this guy! I'll be watching!" Another one posted, "OMG! really? Don't forget you are the "Iron Mike" boss."

Facebook user Michael Anthony said he would love to see Mike Tyson in the boxing ring again. "Win or lose, he'll always be a champion in my eyes."

Is the Fight Pro or Exhibition?

Meanwhile, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), responsible for regulating combat sports, is so far uncertain if the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson event will be considered a professional fight or an exhibition, as reported by ESPN. After retiring from pro boxing in 2005, Tyson, now aged 58, fought in an exhibition match against fellow boxing icon Roy Jones Jr. in 2020, which ended in a draw. The showdown also showcased Tyson's enduring fitness.

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson will be Netflix's third live sports event, following The Netflix Cup and The Netflix Slam, solidifying the streaming giant's commitment to providing diverse and engaging sports content. Looking ahead, Netflix is slated to be the regular host for WWE's "Monday Night Raw" every week starting in 2025, according to Variety.
