Massive Meta Outage Forces Facebook, Instagram, Threads Users to Log Out

All Meta apps are currently down except for WhatsApp.

Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, all owned by Meta, are currently facing significant issues that are impacting users' ability to access these platforms. The outage began around 10 AM ET and affected a large number of users.

If you notice that your FB or IG account suddenly logs out, don't panic just yet. It's on Meta's end and not from someone who might have been interested in accessing your account.

Facebook Down At the Moment

As The Daily Mail reports, many users are being logged out of their Facebook accounts, preventing them from logging back in. This login issue has left numerous users unable to access their accounts and use the platform's features.

Instagram Disruptions

On Instagram, users are encountering difficulties in refreshing their feeds. Additionally, some users are experiencing issues with loading stories and comments. Although not everyone is affected, the widespread nature of the problem is evident.

If you notice that you keep reloading Instagram messages and they only keep "bouncing back," you're probably one of many users affected by the downtime.

Threads Unavailable

Threads, another platform under Meta's umbrella, is completely inaccessible to users. Upon opening the app, an error message appears, indicating that something has gone wrong.

Again, try to be calm if you notice a similar issue when accessing Threads. We never know what caused Meta's system to experience this global outage.

What DownDetector Finds

Reports on DownDetector quickly escalated for all three platforms following the onset of the outage. As of now, Meta has not officially acknowledged the issue.

Despite inquiries from various sources, including The Verge, Meta has not provided any updates or indicated efforts to resolve the problem.

What the Meta Users Think About the Outage

Users are advised to remain patient while Meta addresses the issue and explores solutions to restore functionality to Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. However, not all users can be composed once a sudden interruption breaks out.

Some users on X (formerly Twitter) said that they first suspected their accounts to get hacked, only to find out that the rest of their Meta accounts were also not functional.

Another user thought that a stranger was attempting to reset his password on Facebook.

"Oh gosh. How will people survive?" one user joked upon knowing about the Meta downtime.

This is not the first time Meta has been affected by an outage. A few years ago, Facebook users who had been stripped of access to Facebook created memes on Twitter.

In May 2023, Messenger users complained that they could not receive messages on the app. However, at the time, there was an unguaranteed workaround that worked for others. This was done by clicking the F5 and CTRL keys at the same time.
