Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang says artificial intelligence (AI) could soon think like humans, but he says it largely depends on what thinking like a human means. He claims that if it meant passing most human tests, then artificial general intelligence (AGI) could happen as soon as five years.
Huang, the head of the world's top manufacturer of AI chips-which power systems like OpenAI's ChatGPT-claimed AGI could happen in five years if it meant giving AI every test one can think of and doing well on each one of it.
He maintained, however, that AGI might be considerably further away based on alternative criteria because scientists are still at odds over how to best characterize how humans think. For AGI to become possible, demand for AI chips is reportedly projected to continue soaring but Huang says not only demand will increase but AI chips' computing power as well.

Although Huang acknowledged that additional AI chip manufacturers will be required, he also pointed out that as chips improve over time, the number of chips that consumers need will decrease. He says that over time, algorithms and AI processing will advance significantly.
This proves to remotely echo a previous statement from OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, wherein he believes the world will require a lot more processors for artificial intelligence, but it will also require spending on many things that are not currently being thought of.
Nvidia CEO Predicts Coding's Death
While Huang predicts that AI thinking like humans highly depends on what the end goal looks like, the CEO recently predicted that computer coding could no longer be a priority due to the advancements of AI.
Speaking at the Word Government Summit in Dubai, Huang said that young professionals should otherwise spend time gaining knowledge in fields like farming, biology, manufacturing, and education rather than coding. Huang stated, however, that some coding abilities will still be required to recognize when and when to employ AI programming, proving that it is not all bad news for coders.
Upskilling, according to Huang, is the way of the future since it will teach people the know-how of when and how to apply AI programming. He went on to say that native language will be the sole language needed for coding when natural language processing reaches that stage.
Nvidia Soars
Nvidia continues to lead the AI boom, prompted to skyrocket its valuation to $2 trillion. Nvidia would become the first semiconductor company to reach such a massive market valuation, which would be a historic occasion. This increase in price highlights Nvidia's critical position as the main winner from the market's current fervor for AI equities.
The remarkable increase in Nvidia's stock value is evidence of the company's exceptional financial results and leadership in the industry. Recent financial results from Nvidia exceeded Wall Street's projections and confirmed investors' faith in AI technologies.
