The Amazon Freevee app which offers an entirely no subscription service may be coming to an end, with reports claiming that it will soon shut down as the company looks to focus on its top service. This is because of the recent change on Amazon's Prime Video to feature ads on the platform, with this being the company's priority regarding its streaming leg.
Freevee has been available for less than a year now, offering a live TV and on-demand content platform that asks for no subscription fees to enjoy.
Amazon Freevee to Shut Down? Here's What Amazon Said
AdWeek reported that Amazon is deciding on whether to shut down Freevee, its renowned streaming platform that offers all free content, centering on both live TV and on-demand content. This is because at the moment, Amazon already has two ad-supported services available to the public, that being Freevee, and the most recent one being Prime Video with ads.
In this report, Amazon was said to be planning Freevee's shutdown by April 2024, centering on its streaming to be under the Prime membership.
However, Variety reported that an Amazon representative clarified this shutdown in an email, denying the removal of Freevee and will continue its free-to-use streaming platform.

Prime Video with Ads is the Priority Says Report
Nevertheless, the original report of Freevee's shutdown said that Prime Video with ads is now the priority of the company, being its ad-supported streaming platform service. However, the decision for Prime Video with ads is not yet final, as it is still in its testing phase which would collect feedback from subscribers regarding this setup.
That being said, Freevee remains Amazon's free TV experience, available for all Prime and non-Prime members.
Amazon Freevee and Prime Video
Freevee has been an icon of its own right because of what it offered subscribers, a chance to enjoy a significant service that offers both live TV and on-demand content from Prime Video, all without a cost. Last year, Freevee expanded more on its content offers by adding more Prime Video originals to stream, available without additional costs.
In the US, Freevee and other free TV streaming platforms soared significantly, especially as more people enjoyed what these experiences have to offer, with a small price to pay which is receiving ads. That being said, there was several additional content on the likes of Freevee, getting NBCUniversal shows like SNL and more added to the free service.
While the massive talks behind Freevee's availability amongst the public are on the edge, it is still not yet shutting down immediately once the talks are final. Varying reports are now giving several answers behind this, with Amazon saying that Freevee is not shutting down, but the existence of two ad-centered services is certainly redundant for Amazon.
