A new era for Volkswagen's electrification efforts is here after it unveiled the ID.7 Tourer, debuting an electric station wagon that brings a familiar form factor to modern car development. Volkswagen is not yet killing off station wagons or estate cars on its lineup, centering on the old but iconic design, best known for appearing in some of its recent fuel-powered vehicles.
Among the latest estate cars or station wagons of Volkswagen are the Passat, Arteon, and Golf Estate, offering long bodies in a sedan or crossover height configuration.
Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer Unveiled: Electric Station Wagon
Volkswagen unveiled the ID.7 Tourer to the world, highlighting its first electric station wagon in the lineup, in a bid to diversify more of what it has to offer for all. It is an upper mid-class electric vehicle that went alongside the release of the New Passat, another station wagon body car but is powered by a gas-powered engine.
According to Volkswagen, the ID.7 Tourer was derived from the ID.7 platform, using its architecture and development to transport it into a "fastback saloon with a long range."
Volkswagen boasts of the executive design of this ID.7 Tourer, centering on aerodynamics that helps improve its long-range, also highlighting the emission advantages of its fully-electric mobility. It offers a new 86kWh battery that can charge up to 200 kW at DC quick-charging stations, also seeing the power of AI-with ChatGPT onboard, alongside the VW IDA assistant.
Volkswagen's Estate Car Design Goes Electric
It is also one of the first all-electric estate cars in its class, claims Volkswagen.
Estate cars are known for their massive trunk space, and the Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer boasts of a high load capacity of up to 1,714 liters with the rear seats folded and 605 liters in regular configuration.
Volkswagen and its Electric Vehicles
As the world transitioned towards clean energy cars, one of the biggest car conglomerates in the world, Volkswagen, also joined the significant transition, offering battery-powered EVs to the world. It started with the company's ID platform, debuting various renowned brands of the company to get the electric motors, including its iconic Kombi or the VW Bus turning into the ID.BUZZ.
Last year, the company also shared a milestone it achieved, saying that it was able to produce 1 million MEB-based EVs already, accounting for Volkswagen's other brands including Audi, Cupra, and ŠKODA.
The company is not yet stopping there, as there was also a concept from last year that reinvents the Golf GTI, the renowned performance hatchback of the company, into the ID.GTI, an electric version of the famed car.
There are more in store from Volkswagen for the future of their transportation efforts, centering on electric vehicles coming to the world. The first electric station wagon from Volkswagen is here, leveraging the length of SUVs that offer more room and trunk space but features the height and low center of gravity of a sedan, packed into the ID.7 Tourer.
