Many still claim that Apple is creating its version of a foldable for the iPhone platform, and the recent report claims to have insider knowledge about this development from Cupertino. However, they are not bearers of good news as it was said that the company is currently facing massive challenges in this foldable iPhone, centering on a clamshell-type version on its take.
Moreover, the leaker claimed that while this is already in development and there are already prototypes, it might not come shortly, and it would be later than expected by the industry.
Apple Testing Foldable iPhones But Face Challenges
An anonymous person who has "direct knowledge" of Apple's development spoke to The Information about its latest project, also known as the foldable iPhone that would debut Cupertino's first take on this type of device. According to the leaker, these devices are already in "early development" from Apple, but there is a possibility that they "could be canceled."
Moreover, this is a clamshell-type foldable, similar to the renowned Samsung Galaxy Z Flip series and the Motorola Razr smartphones already available in the market.
That being said, Apple is facing massive challenges in creating this foldable iPhone as it saw various issues like it gets easily broken when folded, too thick, and is expensive.
Clamshell-type Foldable iPhone Coming Later
The leaker further claimed that if this development sees a pass and would be made available by the company, it will be offered after 2025, or later. Moreover, the challenges that Apple is facing are similar to its competitors who already have foldables offered.
It is important to note that Samsung's first Galaxy Z Fold faced significant complaints for easily broken screens, with the Pixel Fold also notorious for its poor durability.
Apple's Quest towards Foldables
The quest towards creating a foldable iPhone has been ignited in rumors only, and for many years, Apple was shrouded in speculations and leaks by various sources about this new transformation. Initially, renowned Apple leaker Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that a foldable iPhone would be debuting come 2023, initially expected to go alongside the iPhone 15, but it does not have a stylus.
Last year came but there were no announcements for this new variant of the iPhone, and the company's innovation focused on the Vision Pro only.
Moreover, as of last year, Apple is the only remaining smartphone brand that does not have a foldable phone offered to the public, falling behind its rivals.
Samsung is best known for debuting the foldable, and the rest is history for the smartphone industry, with various companies like Google, Oppo, OnePlus, Huawei, Xiaomi, and more offering this type of device. While Apple is behind, there is already a development for a foldable clamshell-type iPhone, but it is currently facing challenges that would set it up later for its availability.
