Memory chips are massive deal breakers for PCs, and Samsung is dropping bombs that will improve the industry more, centered on its DDR5 developments. It was reported that there is an upgrade coming, offering "superfast" DDR5 memory chips that bring massive improvements compared to its previous tech, with a 128GB memory option also joining the release.
Samsung DDR5 Memory Chips to Bring 'Superfast' Improvements
The 2024 IEEE International Solid-State Circuit Conference is right around the corner, and one of the slated showcases is expected from the South Korean tech giant, Samsung. This is where the company will first unveil its take on DDR5 memory chips, centering on cutting-edge developments for this new business for Samsung.
According to Tech Radar, Samsung is ramping up its developments towards improved memory processors for computers in this event.
The DDR5 chips would offer high-capacity features in its 12nm process, with 32GB onboard. This doubles the capacity of its previous 16GB DDR5 DRAM. Through this new process, Samsung said that it will enable its DRAM modules to offer as much as 1 terabyte (1TB) capacity for massive applications.
It reportedly will offer 8.0Gbps per pin, alongside more options like the 32 and 48GB DIMMs at DDR5-8000 speeds in single-rank configurations, with 64 and 96GB DIMMs in dual-rank configurations.
Samsung DDR5: 128GB Option Also Coming Soon
Samsung's development will also feature a 128GB module without the TSV (Through Silicon Via) process, known for what the South Korean tech company brought in the previous DDR5 128GB DRAM chips.
Last year's GDDR7 memory is also expected to make its debut alongside Samsung's DDR5 technology coming this year.
Samsung and its Chip Developments
While Samsung is best known for its consumer tech and readily available devices on hand, the company is also one to bring parts and other necessities for building PCs and more. One of the top products from Samsung's development is its solid-state drives, with the most recent offering being its 4TB 990 Pro SSD, offering a renowned reading performance and capabilities to improve storage.
Moreover, there is also the Exynos chip from the company's developments, mostly launched in the UK and EU regions, but recent news claimed that it will expand more in Europe and Southeast Asian countries. The Exynos chips that Samsung developed are on par with its Snapdragon flagship series equipped with the US and other region versions, centering on SoCs.
While Samsung is not that massive on chips and other parts for computers, the company established its name as an adequate performer in this area of technology now. This new move towards developing DDR5 chips looks to bring improved memory features for computers, one that would either help build a widely capable one or upgrade the experience to existing built PCs.
