Earlier this January, Samsung introduced the world to the renowned Galaxy AI which is now making its debut to those who bought their latest flagship smartphone release, the Galaxy S24 series. However, it would only be available for a year to access for free, after which, it remains unclear if Samsung would ask for subscriptions to access the "more powerful" paid version of the Galaxy AI.
There are still many unanswered questions regarding the new comment on the paid Galaxy AI, especially if there would be features to remain on free access, as well as the timeline for each customer.
Samsung: Paid Galaxy AI to Bring 'More Powerful' Features
Samsung's TM Roh recently revealed to ET Telecom that there is a "paid" Galaxy AI version coming soon, and the executive hinted at what it will offer for the world, alongside the smartphones. The paid Galaxy AI will bring a "more powerful" experience for its users, but Roh did not reveal what kind of features or experiences will soon join the service.
In Roh's statement, users of the current Galaxy AI will be satisfied with the existing free version of the tech once the paid service arrives.
However, it remains unknown if the paid Galaxy AI experience would be a subscription-based service, but that is likely what companies are pushing for now.
Samsung's Galaxy AI is Only Free for A Year
9to5 Google reported that Roh's comments left many unanswered questions for the future of Galaxy AI, only that it would only be available to access for free for its first year.
With this, Samsung seems to be following in the footsteps of OpenAI, Microsoft, Google, and more companies who ask for a paid subscription for its more powerful AI access.
Moreover, it is unknown what Samsung has to offer for its paid Galaxy AI, and if those who purchased the S24 or other new phones would start their free year upon buying the device.
Samsung's Take on Mobile AI
The Galaxy Unpacked event last mid-January gave the world the anticipated flagship smartphone lineup release of the company, and it arrived earlier than expected, unlike last year which commenced in early February. While the S24 series was the main star, another tech from Samsung took the stage, and this is with the first-ever Galaxy AI, optimized for the mobile.
Localizing the experience is what Samsung focused on in this release, with the mobile AI experience offering more than the Galaxy AI which the South Korean giant developed. It is important to note that alongside Samsung's proprietary tech, it also has a collaboration with Google to push more AI features on the smartphone, and would not be limited to the S24 series only.
In the latest event, Samsung established itself as a new frontrunner in the AI development front, mostly centering on onboard AI for its devices, much like Intel's AI PCs reinforced last CES 2024.
However, Samsung's Galaxy AI would only be free for a year said the report, with the company offering a paid version to arrive soon, to bring a "more powerful" access for all.
