OpenAI, Common Sense Media Collaboration: AI Guidelines Coming for Online Safety

A new collaboration hopes to create AI guidelines for online safety.

The revolt against AI and its continued availability with limited regulations or guidelines is massive now, but the recent announcement of OpenAI and Common Sense Media wants to change this sentiment for the tech. A new collaboration has been formed by the two entities, both looking towards creating new AI guidelines that will help improve online safety for the development.

For more than a year, AI has been growing rampantly, but some developments have no bars held against its misuse and potential dangers for different age groups online.

OpenAI and Common Sense Media announced their collaboration towards creating new AI guidelines that will help the world, especially its children, to use it responsibly. The renowned AI company said that through this collaboration, it would be bringing AI guidelines and educational materials for parents, educators, and teens that would help improve its products.

This was announced earlier amid the #CommonSenseSummit, with Jim Steyer and OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman.

Apart from this, OpenAI said that there would be "family-friendly" GPTs available to access via its GPT Store, adhering to Common Sense Media's ratings and standards.

What Will the New AI Guidelines Do for Online Safety?

As per Common Sense Media, the goal is to create these guidelines to better lead children to understand and use AI responsibly, especially at this time when controversies are high against artificial intelligence. The collaboration is focused on helping teens and families use AI safely, one that would start promoting its safe and reliable use.

Responsible AI Use and its Regulation

It is safe to say that AI is relatively new in society, but the technology has since given mixed opinions to its users, especially with the endless possibilities that one can do with its power.

That being said, there are many agencies, organizations, and entities that are looking to push forth AI guidelines and regulations to help govern its use, with the EU's AI Act now established as the world's first.

While many companies are claiming that there are safeguards are already in place for AI, it is still not enough for many, and it is seen in massive events in the past where many are still using it for unethical applications.

The United States, United Kingdom, and 16 other countries including Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Poland, Australia, Chile, Israel, Nigeria, and Singapore have all signed the so-called "AI Pact." Through this, world-recognized guidelines and regulations would help set up AI to be a safe and ethical application, giving a highlight to security.

AI is still in its early stages, and despite these guidelines, there are still many harmed by what it has to offer. OpenAI and Common Sense Media want to change this, with both companies' assets set to play a massive role in creating AI guidelines for online safety.
