LateNiteSoft, the developer behind Camera+, introduced version 2.0 of its professional iPhone photography app, Photon Camera.
Launched just six months ago, Photon Camera has undergone 20 updates, establishing itself as a manual control powerhouse for iPhone photographers. According to 9to5 Mac, the latest release focuses on enhancing white balance controls with two key features: 3D white balance control and gray card detection, per 9to5 Mac.
Enhanced Features
The 3D white balance control allows users to simultaneously adjust temperature and tint, not only on the blue/orange axis but also on the magenta/green axes. Fine-tuning colors is easy with arrows at each cardinal point on the control ball. An "auto" button is available for quick resets.
In addition, the gray card detection feature simplifies achieving perfect white balance in various lighting conditions. Users can activate manual white balance, select the gray card option, point the viewfinder at the gray card, and confirm for accurate white balance.
The Photon Camera 2.0 release ensures consistent controls between orientations for 48 MP shooting and includes various bug fixes. The app's evolution has transformed it from a beautiful, intuitive manual shooting app into a comprehensive tool for professional photographers.
Photon Camera lets users save photographs in JPEG, HEIF, RAW, or ProRAW. The app allows full camera control, including manual focus and focus peaking, per PetaPixel. A real-time histogram helps users discover under and over-exposed regions for optimal exposure.
The camera app is available as a free download on the App Store, offering monthly or yearly subscription plans as well as a one-time purchase option to unlock all pro capabilities. The app's rapid development and feature-rich updates underscore LateNiteSoft's commitment to providing a robust photography experience for iPhone users.

Reimagining Photography
LateNiteSoft introduced Photon in July of the previous year, marking a shift towards a professional-style iOS camera application. Camera+, initially launched in 2010, underwent multiple iterations over the past decade, solidifying its status as one of the iPhone's most popular camera apps.
Camera+ 2 replaced the original app in 2018, and LateNiteSoft added a Mac desktop studio platform in 2021. The app got an AI-powered picture upscaler in 2022, showing the company's dedication to development.
Noël Rosenthal, a product manager at LateNiteSoft, acknowledges the learning curve associated with their apps, particularly Camera+. With the introduction of Photon, the company aims to simplify learning professional photography.
Rosenthal emphasized that Photon reflects over a decade of photography experience, presenting a reimagined shooting experience that combines accessibility with powerful features, per TechCrunch. The goal is to offer users the best, most intuitive, and most accessible method for capturing photos on the iPhone.
