Several years after the release of the first app, Google is now back to deliver creative takes to your photos with Art Selfie 2, offering a revamp of the experience that now offers its most prized tech, generative AI. Using the company's latest developments in machine learning, Art Selfie 2 promises better edits and reimaginations of your photos, taking inspiration from the world.
These generative edits were one of the early iterations of AI, used to help transform images for users, with Google claiming a more creative experience with the new app.
Google Brings Back Art Selfie, Now with Generative AI
A recent announcement from Google brings back a renowned app from its Arts & Culture department, centering on this new version of the feature called Art Selfie 2. While initially, the goal of Art Selfie was to help users discover their doppelgangers from the history of art, this new version offers generative AI with it, and this will help create new images over different styles.
There are 25 diverse styles available to choose from, said Google, focusing on themes such as art, history, and travel. Some examples include Medieval Knight, Performing Shakespeare, Frida Kahlo Portrait, Ancient Egyptian Pharoah, Exploring Petra, Italian Renaissance, The Great Wave, Rio Carnival, Climbing Everest, and the like.
However, Google claimed that more art styles and themes will appear in the future to create or transform images using generative AI.
Google Art Selfie 2 Revamps the Creative Experience
The revamp to the Art Selfie app brings a way to stylize the images and alter what they portray, going against image editors readily available on the Play Store.
Google's Art Selfie 2 is now available to download via the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
Google's Generative AI Developments
Sundar Pichai, the Google CEO, was serious when he said that one of the goals for 2024 is to deliver more improvements for its AI developments, centering on the latest from the company, the Gemini.
It is yet unknown what is fully in store for Google's 2024, but the company already teased it towards December when it launched the Gemini AI early, saying it is the most advanced from them yet.
In the latest version of Chrome alone, the company brought a significant AI presence to help the browser offer improved navigation and use with it capable of organizing the tabs in groups for its users. Moreover, in Chrome 121, Google also adds a way to customize a theme for the browser with generative AI, alongside the latest 'Help Me Write' for more text fields on the web.
Five years ago, the world saw the first iteration of Google Arts & Culture's app which delivered the Art Selfie app, best known for helping users "find" their doppelgänger in fine art. Now, the company is reintroducing a new version of the app, Art Selfie 2, but this time takes it up a notch further in its creativity and generative capabilities, powered by Google's generative AI.
