Combining Multiple Video Effects

The first and foremost feature is the ability to combine multiple video effects seamlessly. Users now have the freedom to blend backgrounds with filter effects, offering a more dynamic and personalized touch to their virtual presence.

A new layer icon on the self-view tile facilitates easy tracking of applied effects and allows users to remove one or all effects simultaneously. The user interface has been revamped for a more streamlined experience, categorizing effects into Backgrounds, Filters, and Appearance.

Studio Lighting for a Professional Touch

Google Meet is introducing studio lighting, an exclusive feature for web users with the Duet AI for Google Workspace Enterprise add-on.

This innovative addition lets users simulate studio-quality lighting, providing control over lighting position, brightness, and color. Whether you want to enhance your professional appearance or simply set the mood, studio lighting adds a touch of sophistication to virtual meetings.

Enhanced Audio Quality with Studio Sound

Studio sound, another feature introduced with this update, enhances audio quality. Currently available on the web, this function employs AI to automatically improve poor audio quality from Bluetooth headsets and dial-in participants.

The feature will soon extend its support to the mobile Meet app in the coming weeks. Studio sound is also part of the Duet AI for Google Workspace Enterprise add-on, ensuring a comprehensive audio-visual user experience.

Rollout Schedule and Availability

Google Meet is committed to delivering these enhancements promptly, with a carefully planned rollout schedule.

For users on the web, the combined video effects and studio lighting will see a gradual rollout starting on Jan. 17 for Rapid Release domains and Jan. 29 for Scheduled Release domains.

Mobile users can expect the combined video effects to be fully available on iOS and Android devices starting Jan. 16.

Eligibility and Availability Details

While the combined video effects feature is available to all users, the availability of specific video effects depends on the user's Google Workspace edition and admin policy.

On the other hand, studio lighting and sound are exclusive to customers with the Duet AI for Google Workspace Enterprise add-on. It is important to note that an eligible device is required to utilize the Studio lighting feature.

What to Expect in the Coming Weeks

Google Meet users can anticipate additional support for studio sound in the mobile Meet app in the coming weeks, further enhancing the audio experience for on-the-go participants.

The platform's commitment to continuously improving and innovating underscores its dedication to providing a seamless virtual meeting environment.
