iPhone 16 Specs, Details, Camera Upgrades: What to Expect

All seems to be an expected step-up from iPhone 15.

Apple's upcoming iPhone 16 will reportedly feature a faster overall processor and an expected better camera, as specs for the latest iPhone proves to have been unveiled by analyst Jeff Pu from 9to5Mac.

First off, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 will supposedly support an A18 processor. This will reportedly be the first time a CPU constructed on the more potent and efficient 3-nanometer manufacturing will be used in the base model of iPhones.

According to Pu, the iPhone 16 will also come with 8GB of RAM in addition to the new A18 CPU. Compared to the 6GB of RAM that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus presently have, this is an increase. The new A18 Pro processor will be used in the iPhone 16 Pro variants.

Regarding the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, Pu states that the Qualcomm X75 modem will be included in these smartphones. In the meanwhile, the Qualcomm X70 modem will be used by the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. The Qualcomm X70 modem, which is now found inside the whole iPhone 15 family, provides a discernible improvement in 5G speeds when compared to the Qualcomm X65 modem found inside the iPhone 14.

iPhone 16's Visuals

As for the iPhone 16's dimensions and body, Macrumors reports that according to multiple sources, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will have bigger displays. The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are anticipated to have displays that measure 6.27 inches (rounded to 6.3) and 6.85 inches (rounded to 6.9), respectively.

The iPhone's body measurements will rise in tandem with the display size. It is anticipated that both versions will be broader and taller than the iPhone 15 Pro models. The thickness will stay the same, but because of their increased size, the weight will go up a little.

iPhone 16's camera on the other hand, will be updated with an Ultra Wide camera, with a resolution increase from 12MP to 48MP. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also remarked on this, and it may potentially result in an improvement to spatial video capture, as per the same 9to5mac report.

iPhone 16's AI and Upgrades

Apple's virtual assistant is also expected to get an AI-driven upgrade as CNET states that as per a September story from The Information, Apple intends to enhance Siri's intelligence through the use of massive language models, an essential component of generative AI. According to the source, an iPhone software update is anticipated to roll out in 2024.

Added functionality for Apple's action button is also rumored as Mashable reports that not only the iPhone 15 Pro models but every model in the iPhone 16 lineup will have an Action Button. The Action Button on the current-generation iPhone 15 Pro models may be configured to initiate a variety of apps and functionalities, including as accessibility capabilities, Voice Memo, Focus, Silent Mode, Flashlight, Camera, and Magnifier (which will be available in iOS 17.2).

However, the report states that Apple plans to enhance the Action Button's usefulness when the iPhone 16 is released.

9to5mac's analyst Pu concludes by stating that Wi-Fi 6E, which is presently only available on the iPhone 15 Pro models, will be supported on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. Only Wi-Fi 6 is supported on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. Wi-Fi 6E promises reduced latency, higher throughput, and better network performance overall.

Pu claims that the iPhone 16 Pro versions "might" feature Wi-Fi 7. Last week saw the official release of Wi-Fi 7, which includes several enhancements.
