Last week was only the second week of the year 2024, and it already greeted the world with massive tech developments that offer significant experiences in the future, from consumer tech, down to clean energy. One of the top headlines centers on the "game changer" for battery development, centering on artificial intelligence that helped answer the possible lithium alternative and reduce the dependence on it.
The latest CES 2024 also unveiled several developments coming this year, with Intel revealing massive developments in its AI offers this year, and Nintendo's dominance on hardware and game sales in Japan.
AI Revealed Game Changer for Batteries that Reduce Lithium Use
A collaborative study between Microsoft and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) used an AI to help look into the next steps that would offer a game changer in the battery development industry. More particularly, artificial intelligence discovered a way that could help reduce lithium reliance on these power cells by as much as 70 percent.
Through AI use, Microsoft's researchers utilized a unique process despite inputting as much as 32 million potential inorganic materials that could replace lithium. Using its cutting-edge AI, the team was able to narrow down up to 18 potential candidates which were said to bring promise.
Material N2116 is now the potential candidate which the team discovered, compressing as much as two decades of study into nine months through the power of AI. Soon, it would help reduce the reliance on lithium and help the battery industry thrive more as EVs and other applications see growth now.
Intel AI: CES 2024 Showcase with Pat Gelsinger Reveals
Intel's AI is starting to take shape, and despite last year's significant integration of the company, CEO Pat Gelsinger promised a lot coming this year in their latest keynote on CES 2024. One of the main focuses of Gelsinger and Intel's AI now is its appearance in everything the company has to offer, shifting towards offering its availability from the very core of its products.
Intel's development heavily centers on AI PCs, and according to its CEO, the company offers the world's first local integration of advanced technology to devices. It would not rely on the cloud, but rather on the system's local features that would deliver a smaller scale experience, but more personalized or targeted, depending on a user's unique needs.
This would solve the need for massive servers to deliver AI, with massive economic value in its adoption to the tech industry.
Nintendo's Dominance: Still the Top in Japan
For the 19th straight year, Nintendo dominated the sales it has in both hardware and software availability in its home country, Japan, and it only shows the company's massive relevance in games and pop culture. The current-gen hardware of the company, the Nintendo Switch, claimed all of the top ten spots in the list of the best-selling consoles of 2023.
On the other hand, renowned franchises Nintendo like The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros., and Pikmin also dominated the charts, according to Famitsu, a renowned game statistics analyst.
