Aside from the rental and leasing services of Hertz, it is also offering used EVs on its website for people to check out, available now to purchase from the company. Around 700 electric vehicles are on sale now, and this came from the company's clean energy rental fleet.

It was reported by Ars Technica that the reason behind this massive number of units available for sale is the higher repair costs of electric vehicles, particularly for one car brand, Tesla. It was reported that Hertz Tesla's average is about 20 percent higher compared to other cars in terms of repair costs.

This means that Teslas from its rentals earn the company less money compared to other EVs from its list.

The report also claims that Hertz is targeting as many as 20,000 EVs to sell for the entire year of 2024.

On Hertz's website, there is an assortment of used EVs available to purchase from the company, with around 637 Tesla cars up for grabs- specifically, 552 Model 3s and 121 Model Ys.

There are also 35 Chevrolet Bolts, 4 KIA EV6s, and each of the BMW i3 and the Nissan Leaf.

Interested buyers may find a Model 3 for as low as $20,000, and the most expensive listed is at $38,000 for Tesla EVs. However some models have more than 100,000 miles on them, considering they are rentals, but some are under 5,000 miles.

Used EV Sales are Ramping Up Now

Secondhand cars are a gamble to purchase, especially as one could not possibly know if it is still in good condition or is already in a bad state, but it is still worth checking out to learn more about the unit. In 2023, there was a surge in used electric vehicle sales in the first quarter, with as much as a 32 percent rise thanks to the price cuts made by Tesla during this time.

The question now centers on the customers' dilemma in buying cars, and it is whether to opt for a brand new electric vehicle straight from a dealership or purchase secondhand ones from resellers or distributing companies. The good thing is, that interested secondhand buyers are still treated to the EV tax credit from the IRS, with as much as $4,000 off the price of their used purchase.

Hertz's current offer looks to bring its used EVs to interested buyers, but the reason behind them is because of high repair costs, so review it thoroughly to avoid further costs along the way.
