Insomniac Games Canceled a Marvel's Spider-Man Multiplayer
Bloomberg's report regarding the Insomniac Games breach also shed a light on a possible ray of light in this access, with the Game On Newsletter talking about Marvel's Spider-Man multiplayer spinoff which it planned at one point. However, it was also revealed here that the plans for this game were already canceled, stating that the circulating information was already old.
While this may sound like news for gamers and fans, this leak is not that damaging with regards to Insomniac's multiplayer game development as it was scrapped from a long time ago.
This was confirmed by people familiar with this plan, as stated by Bloomberg.
Massive Insomniac Leak: The Spider-Man Multiplayer
According to ComicBook Gaming, there were still speculations behind Insomniac's multiplayer Marvel's Spider-Man game before, especially as earlier information talked about getting the chance to play both Peter Parker and Miles Morales in one game, before Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
It was said that this game was possible, but Insomniac went a different route, especially with the famed sequel that came out, focusing on a single-player experience that only allowed character switching.
Insomniac Games and Naughty Dog
For many years, multiplayer games have taken their place in the world, with modern developments in gaming paving the way to improving the experiences, especially now that the internet is getting faster than ever. With systems meant to carry loads of processes for multiplayer experiences, battle royales, and co-op experiences have been famous, with the likes of EA's It Takes Two, Overcooked franchise, and more.
That being said, two companies that have deep ties to PlayStation, Insomniac Games and Naughty Dog, have focused on their single-player narrative releases, delivering renowned franchises to the world.
However, both also had talks regarding an online and connected experience in their next releases, with The Last of Us franchise getting a multiplayer spin-off known as Factions.
The leak behind Insomniac was fairly recent, and it was not something that the industry and gamers expected from the company as Marvel's Spider-Man franchise is heavy on its single-player experience.
Still, there was a plan, and the recent leak was the only time it was mentioned, but unfortunately, this was already canceled, shutting down the possibility for gamers to team up with peers to venture into New York City as Spider-Men.
