Google's December update for Chrome was unveiled, and it centers on performance and safety enhancements for the renowned browser, centering on the Group Tabs and Memory Saver feature.

To start, Tab Groups was already a long-offered feature for Chrome, but in this latest version, M12, the company is adding a way for users to save their collections to avoid losing them. Google highlighted that this feature is available on the desktop, and it will allow users to declutter, organize, and close tabs, but not necessarily lose them.

On the other hand, there are enhancements made to Memory Saver, and it will bring additional information whenever hovering over tabs that are not launched or are not the currently opened ones. Through this, users will know how much memory this specific site or tab consumes, and they may opt to close it if the need arises.

Lastly, there is now an improved version of Safety Checks that will be more "proactive" in sending users alerts, running in the background when using Chrome.

When to Expect the Latest Update for Chrome?

Google said that this update for Chrome is meant for December, and this is the week that it will roll out to users, so expect an update notice for the browser in a few days. Alternatively, turn on the automatic updates to no longer worry about missing this latest update.

Google Chrome Developments

The Google Chrome experience has had its good, bad, and worse days, but this does not mean that it is no longer something that sees new developments and upgrades for all. In the recent updates from Google, it added its top-tier technology, the Bard AI, and integrated it into Chrome, with the PC version of the browser already featuring the chatbot to help users write.

Moreover, the company has taken it upon itself to improve security on the platform and add a block to third-party cookies, effectively stemming the massive need to accept these web data from others. This falls under the company's Privacy Sandbox program which aims to add another layer of security when surfing the web, essentially blocking trackers.

Other experiences include the iconic adoption of Google's renowned Material You redesign which makes it similar to smartphone experiences, alongside other of Google's work apps.

Chrome is still the top-used web browser in the world, and many are trusting Google to take them to many places online, offering a way for users to enjoy more of what awaits on the web. Now, the latest feature will let them do so, especially with the feature to save group tabs to avoid losing a collection of related sites, followed by the Memory Saver update and Safety Check.
