In an unusual and visually striking move, Genshin Impact players have taken their discontent to new heights - literally.
A group of passionate gamers orchestrated an airship protest floating above the iconic Teyvat Tower in Mapo-gu, Seoul, as a display of frustration with Hoyoverse's lack of communication, according to GamingonPhone.
This one-of-a-kind protest, a first in gaming protests, aimed to draw attention to Hoyoverse's silence on player concerns.
Genshin Impact Airship Protest
The protest's architect, the leader of the Genshin Impact coalition, highlighted the necessity of this extreme action, citing the negligible impact of previous truck protests.
"We conducted truck protests for five days recently for similar reasons but didn't get much notice. It seems that the truck protests initially gained attention during the Pego Incident, and subsequent Uma Musume Carriage Protest, but plain truck protests are no longer capturing interest," expressed the leader, revealing that this innovative approach stemmed from the need for heightened visibility.
The leader disclosed that over 2,000 users pooled resources, amassing a substantial 16 million won (~$12.2k) to execute the four-day protest, spearheaded by around ten dedicated participants.
Remarkably, investigations before the event unveiled an intriguing revelation: airships had never been deployed for protests in Seoul, despite contrasting police records. The protest leader remarked, "Given the attention from many media outlets, it seems we've achieved our goal of drawing attention."
Genshin Impact Player Concerns
The crux of the issue lies in Hoyoverse's persistent silence and detachment from effective communication.
Dissatisfied gamers are rallying for, at the very least, minimal efforts from Hoyoverse to engage with their community.
The protest sends a clear message: communication is indispensable in fostering a healthy relationship between developers and players.
Hoyoverse Responds
In response to this unique protest, a Hoyoverse Korea representative conveyed regret over the inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of their real-time chat.
They emphasized the intention to redirect focus towards version broadcasts, promising a subsequent reopening of the chat and advance notices for future closures.
However, this response has yet to ease the concerns of protesting players, who eagerly await a more comprehensive and direct address of their grievances.
The spectacle of airships hovering above Teyvat Tower symbolizes the players' collective voice and serves as a testament to the significance of effective communication within the gaming community. Players stand unified, urging Hoyoverse to bridge the communication gap and actively address their concerns.
As this one-of-a-kind airship protest unfolds, the gaming community and industry stakeholders keep their gaze fixed on Seoul's skyline, anticipating not only the protest's conclusion but also a meaningful response from Hoyoverse.
