The latest crossover event for Minecraft is now offering gamers a chance to explore the famous swamp and meet the world's most favorite ogre, Shrek, in a new limited-time event. This is thanks to the recent collaboration of Mojang Studios and Universal Studios in their "New Year's Celebration" crossover, bringing forth new live events and other renowned characters from its franchises.
While it is not the "Far Far Away" kingdom, Shrek and his iconic swamp, alongside other characters are a treat for all Minecraft players.
Minecraft Brings Shrek and His Swamp to the Game
One of the largest crossovers for Minecraft is here now, and it is with the Universal Studios collaboration that brings online events and mini-games for gamers to enjoy. More importantly, this brings the famous ogre and fictional character, Shrek, to the game, and gamers are given the chance to visit his swamp, as well as meet the other characters in his franchise.
This limited event is accessible to the Minecraft: Bedrock Edition only, and the game will only hold the event until Friday, December 22, 4 PM PST.
Moreover, this also means that users need to have subscriptions for online gaming services on different platforms including the Xbox Game Pass, Nintendo Switch Online, or the PlayStation Plus.
Minecraft x Universal: New Year's Celebration
The Minecraft x Universal New Year's Celebration offers a deep dive into the world of Universal Studios, where they will be first given a tour across the massive franchises from the media company.
Gamers will be also toured on sets of these renowned movies, including some behind-the-scenes experiences, and firsthand encounters with the characters. The shark from JAWS will also make an appearance, with Shrek also accompanied by Donkey.
Minecraft and the Shrek Franchise
For many years now, Minecraft has been considered as the best-selling game of all time, and it has been an iconic experience in the gaming industry, offering a world-building one or going on adventures. It previously brought a new DLC that replicated the world of Sonic the Hedgehog, also bringing the renowned video game characters to the sandbox, in the pixel form.
The iconic DreamWorks and Universal Studios movie, Shrek, has been a renowned franchise for a long time now, with the lovable but menacing green ogre known for its success in the mainstream media. In different mods and official crossovers, fans have integrated Shrek in various adaptations, and it also included his likeness in a Grand Theft Auto V mod.
Universal's Shrek franchise may not be as active as it was in the mid-2000s to the 2010 decade, but it is still one of the top characters to appear in the media industry, as well as games. Now, Mojang and Universal have collaborated to bring a New Year's Celebration, with the online-only events with Shrek lasting until December 22, but the Universal DLC is here to stay.
