TikTok announces its newest upgrade for larger and foldable screens. The update will reportedly support a more precise video feed, a streamlined navigation bar, and landscape and portrait orientations, as per a Tech Crunch report.
TikTok states that the newest upgrades are meant to provide an "enjoyable space for everyone." Users will reportedly notice a streamlined video feed that "showcases content with enhanced clarity" after installing the latest version from TikTok.
Additionally, users will notice navigation bars along the top and bottom of the screen to facilitate easy access to the app's features and tabs. The app will now also be used in either portrait or landscape mode.
Today's statement comes a year after TikTok started internationally testing a full-screen, horizontal mobile mode. TikTok is encroaching more on YouTube's domain by introducing a landscape option for larger screens, something it has been doing for some time before by allowing longer movies.
Engadget adds that TikTok announced it will keep experimenting with services like Topic Feeds, which let viewers browse videos in niche markets like gaming, cuisine, and fashion. The platform has also been reportedly investigating novel approaches to user content delivery and covertly testing the concept of an AI-powered chatbot that can suggest films to users.
TikTok remains one of the best applications for short-form content. Still, the recent updates reportedly allow the social media giant to differentiate itself from rivals like YouTube Shorts and Instagram's Reels by creating innovative methods to distribute content to its viewers.
TikTok's Recent Updates
TikTok's upgrade for larger and foldable screens came only a month after it introduced an on-the-go mobile editing application built directly into the popular video-based application.
The mobile effect editor on TikTok is an application that gives creators a comprehensive, end-to-end effect creation experience on TikTok. Creators can reportedly create effects for TikTok without downloading a separate application. Its aim is to simplify effects creation, regardless of skill level or access to sophisticated tools, for more individuals to start making effects.
Social Media Examiner also adds that TikTok, last August, updated its algorithm to be deactivated for users in the EU soon, in compliance with the Digital Services Act (DSA) of the European Union. Instead of receiving "content to them based on their personal interests," users who choose not to participate in the tailored 'For You' Page and reside stream experiences will view "videos from both the places where they live and around the world."
TikTok in 2023
Techwire Asia reports that TikTok has made well over US$10 billion in gross revenue, a record for a mobile app that isn't a game, citing data.ai as the source. This noteworthy achievement involves making about US$4 billion in a year, mostly from virtual currencies given to platform content providers as gifts.
TikTok proves to have made significant strides in 2023 as, in a single quarter, the application became the first to surpass $1 billion in customer spending. Consumer expenditure was above US$6.2 billion at the beginning of the year. It impressively increased to US$3.8 billion at the conclusion, representing a 61% gain since the start of 2023 and a 15% increase over US$3.3 billion in 2022.
