This 2023 has been a massive year for Google's development of its artificial intelligence projects, but next year, the Pixel 9 is getting its dedicated AI assistant, in the form of Pixie. As part of Google's expansion of new AI developments, this AI follows in the footsteps of Gemini, the latest foundational model of the company that would be applied to products.
Google: Pixel 9, Meet Pixie AI Assistant
A new report from The Information details the current development of Google regarding the presence of a new AI assistant for its smartphones.
Without further ado, Pixel 9, meet the Pixie AI assistant that is reportedly coming next year alongside the launch of the next-gen smartphone from the company.
Like Bard, this new AI assistant from Google would be powered by the latest Gemini, its foundational model capable of multimodal features. It is said that Pixie would use Gmail, Maps, and other Google app data from the smartphone, personalizing the experience and learning more from its owner to act accordingly.
As per the report, this will be a "far more personalized version of Google Assistant."
New AI for Pixel Phones Coming
Google's Pixie will be exclusive to the Pixel smartphone lineup, but it remains unknown if it will come to the current-gen and older Pixel devices of the company.
It would be applied to the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro, speculated for next year's release.
According to 9to5 Google, this AI assistant version is not the same as the "Assistant with Bard" (AWB) technology that the company offers.
Google's AI Development
In the last months of the year, Google was reportedly looking to debut its next-generation AI model to the world, and it was initially speculated for its January 2024 release. However, Google went ahead of the expectations for its more powerful creation, centering on Gemini AI which centers on a foundational model that features multimodal capabilities.
As per Google, the Gemini model is currently powering Bard now, and this is the top AI in the world from the company, set to make significant improvements to what it has to bring. At present, Bard is available to access for all, with its integration to multiple Google apps, but the company offers the ability to turn it off and use the classic "Assistant" instead.
With Google's integration of its AI into many products and devices, it was expected that the company would include a version of this in its renowned smartphone lineup. New reports now highlight the arrival of the new AI to next year's Pixel 9, and instead of getting the Google Assistant only, it will receive the Pixie AI, looking to answer all of the user's needs and many more features.
