The iPhone is getting a different kind of look in the future, and this is because of reports that it is now developing an under-display camera that will make the device more seamless. This means that there would be no visible holes left on the screen, giving users an obstruction-free experience and maximizing more of the top-most area with more to see from various apps, tools, and more.
However, it is not quite there yet, and another focus is still what Apple will prioritize says the reports, centering on the Face ID under the screen and also not visible.
iPhone's Under-Display Camera is Now in Development
According to The Elec's report, LG Innotek, another of Apple's Korean suppliers, has already begun its development of the under-display front camera for the iPhone's future screen. This new display will effectively rid the iPhone of the dedicated punch hole atop the screen, making it a seamless design, with the partner company already publishing patents since last year.
It was said that one of its main challenges is "light loss" and this is because the camera is hidden underneath the glass display before it reaches the lens.
LG Innotek has a technology it is working on called "freeform optic," and this compensates for increasing the light intensity ratio using multiple lens systems.
Apple to Hide the Face ID First, Then Front Camera
According to MacRumors, while LG is working on its development of the under-display camera, Apple will first adopt the under-screen Face ID technology that would hide the entire module from the device. Through the years, Apple has innovatively changed this, from iPhone X's Face ID and front camera design, down to the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15's Dynamic Island reducing the notch and integrating a UI for additional elements.
Apple's Screen Development for its Devices
While there are still no foldable smartphones available from Apple yet, there is already proof that it is under development from recently discovered patents, with Cupertino engineers exploring its creation. The device to debut as a foldable is not yet determined, but there are massive possibilities for these, especially with the iPhone, iPad, or Mac computers with extended screens.
The recent screen development from Apple for its iPhones is with its adoption of OLED for the latest iPhone 15 lineup, which debuted last October for the world. However, it faced significant controversy earlier, as many customers have claimed that there was an OLED burn-in present on their iPhone 15 Pro Max devices, with plenty of culprits and some attributing it to the overheating issue.
Apple is known for both developing its different technologies, but also hire other companies to fulfill the parts it needs, with the iPhone 15 lineup as the best example as it used Samsung's OLED screens. The current reported development centers on another Korean supplier, LG Innotek, who is now creating the under-display camera for the iPhones, but will be available after the under-screen Face ID.
