Tesla's Cybertruck, previously lauded by Elon Musk himself as shatterproof, will now be reportedly supporting a bulletproof version, most likely capable of stopping pistols and Tommy guns.
Business Insider states that a bulletproof version of the Cybertruck, dubbed as 'beast mode' by the Tesla CEO, will be available, with bulletproof windows and a body that Musk previously stated as "literally bulletproof to a nine millimeter handgun" due to its 3mm steel sheet plating. These crucial features, however, will not allow the users to roll down their windows.
It proves that all of Tesla's Cybertrucks will be supporting bulletproof bodies. Still, its glass will be different per version, with either a shatterproof window or a bulletproof window that users cannot roll down.
Based on the same report, experts state that while the Cybertruck will undoubtedly be able to deflect lower-caliber weaponry like handguns and Tommy guns, it will not withstand more incredible velocity or armor-piercing bullets.
It should be noted that no glass is impervious to all sorts of guns or bullets. The effectiveness of bulletproof glass depends on its precise design, thickness, and the type of ammunition it is designed to withstand.
Cybertruck's Bulletproof Demonstration
Back in October, Musk posted another demonstration with a photo depicting a Cybertruck going down a highway with gunshot marks on its side. Musk then said Tesla unloaded a whole Tommy gun magazine into the vehicle's side "Al Capone style," with none of the bullets entering the passenger compartment.
Critics were skeptical and demanded that Tesla CEO Elon Musk produce a video of the experiment, and rightfully so, as the Cybertruck famously failed to be shatterproof during a 2019 demonstration.
The demonstration saw the Cybertruck's windows shattering after throwing a metal ball. Musk continuously reiterated that the truck was shatterproof, claiming that the sledgehammer on the door had damaged the glass, resulting in an unexpected conclusion.
Tesla's Cybertruck Event, Release Date
The delivery of the Cybertruck is reportedly set to begin on November 30, even though the electric pickup has been delayed many times since Musk initially announced it in 2019.
Business Insider further stated that Musk has cautioned that scaling up manufacturing of the Cybertruck to meet his objective of 200,000 units per year will be extremely difficult.
During an earnings call, he said this was due to the pickup's unusual design, acknowledging that the firm "dug its own grave" with its unique decisions when designing the vehicle.
Next week, Fox Business reports Tesla will take center stage as investors await further information on the Cybertruck and its potential for development for the manufacturer. It is potentially increasing its projected production number to 250,000 by 2025.
The same report states that according to the automotive research agency Kelley Blue Book, the initial cost of a Cybertruck could be $50,000.
