Whether the world likes it or not, AI-generated content is now a massive part of the internet and everyday lives, and YouTube is making that clearer for its viewers as it would label the content using the technology. The goal is to give people an idea that what they are watching was made using generative AI, and at the same time, requiring creators to disclose their use.
Google's massive focus on AI is looking to bring additional experiences for users, including sharing if it is present on content via one of the largest streaming platforms in the world.
YouTube Labels AI-Generated Content on Videos
The latest blog post from YouTube details that it is now welcoming AI-generated content on its platform, but they are taking this a step further by adding labels to the videos people see on the platform. The company now believes that AI-generated content will add improvements to the uploads on the platform, adding a safeguard that will protect its users by letting them know what was made by the machine.
Before this, YouTube has policies that prohibit AI-generated content, and this is like other platforms that prohibit the use of artificial intelligence for uploads.
YouTube fears that generative AI may deliver misleading content, and through these labels, the audience will be given a chance to decide what to believe or not via the platform.
YouTube Requires Creators to AI Disclose Use
Apart from this update on YouTube coming in the next months, the streaming platform claims that they will also require content creators to disclose AI use if ever it is present in their videos. Failing to do so may result in YouTube taking down their posts, with extreme cases leading to their suspension from the YouTube Partner Program, apart from other penalties.
Google and YouTube with AI
Generative AI is a fairly familiar topic in the world now, and various technologies and platforms are now deploying their take on this feature in different aspects of their app, expanding more of the use. Recently, Google gave YouTube a generative AI that will soon arrive for users to enjoy, and this is with the "Ask" and "Topics" that are currently under testing, helping users know more information about the video.
One of the main focuses of Google's generative AI is to help deliver more information and context for users to learn about certain topics they are interested in, centering on their search on the platform. The latest AI-powered offer by the company centers on its Search, expanding the feature to more than 120 countries and regions which helps bring improvements to its platform.
Google's Generative AI is expanding to more of what it has to offer, including apps centering on its Workspace Suite, Maps, Gmail, and more, with the most recent being YouTube. Disclosing generative AI use for the audience of the streaming platform would help make them more aware of the circulating content they find online, giving them the power over what to believe and consider.
