AI startups grew their concerns in competing against artificial intelligence giant OpenAI, which recently announced its highly customizable 'GPTS' combining instructions and skills. However, OpenAI investors reportedly assured the startup founders with one saying, "there's so much room for continued innovation in AI."
Investors, as per Reuters, are still searching for innovative artificial intelligence technologies that improve user interfaces and solve deep tech problems like brain-computer interfaces.
During the Reuters' NEXT Conference, Konstantine Buhler, partner at Sequoia Capital, said that AI companies are "in an intermediary step in a decades-long revolution" and that AI startups "can play a very big role in how this is shaped."
"I think there will be really novel formats and forms of engagement that get invented," said the partner at Thrive Capital, Avery Klemmer. She also added that she sees potential for developing consumer apps besides ChatGPT. The OpenAI investor further noted that she anticipates future developments based on current AI chatbot models.
AI Startups vs. OpenAI
AI startups have long been wary of OpenAI, with a LinkedIn report recently echoing this notion. A ChatGPT update shows that ChatGPT Plus users may ask about documents by uploading PDFs, papers, and other file kinds to the chatbot.
Industry watchers are alarmed by this seemingly simple improvement, with some speculating that it may be the end for businesses that rely on generative AI for document reading.
The main concern with this simple but powerful update is whether AI PDF reader businesses can survive in the face of a significant behemoth such as OpenAI incorporating a comparable function into its current offering. The concern was aptly expressed on Twitter by AI expert Alex Ker, who said, "Many startups just died today."
According to another report, the feature is available for users of OpenAI's $20 per month ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT for Enterprise subscription services.
OpenAI's 'GPTs'
Now, after the recently concluded OpenAI live conference for developers and consumers, AI technology startup worries loom once again, with the introduction of ChatGPT apps called 'GPTs' described by the Reuters report as a move aimed at creating an AI empire by offering goods to both enterprises and consumers alike.
'GPTs' are shareable custom versions of ChatGPT described by the AI technology website as something anyone can create for a specific purpose, thereby becoming more beneficial in the users' day-to-day activities, on particular assignments, at business or home.
For instance, GPTs may assist you in teaching your children math, helping you understand the laws of any board game, or creating stickers. The newest ChatGPT venture is highly consumer-friendly, given that coding is unnecessary.
The website described the procedure for creating these 'GPTs' as "as easy as starting a conversation, giving it instructions and extra knowledge, and picking what it can do, like searching the web, making images or analyzing data."
