The success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie paved the way for more Nintendo adaptations to take place, with the next in line centering on The Legend of Zelda's live-action take, now seeing hints on who its main character would be. Link is one of the main protagonists of the franchise, and the actor who will be cast as the Hylian hero was already teased by an insider.
Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda Live-Action: Hints for Link's Casting
The Legend of Zelda's live-action adaptation from Nintendo is already looking for its cast to bring the game franchise's character to life, with a recent report from My Time to Shine Hello via X hinting at who will portray Link. In this report, the insider claimed that Walker Scobell is the "Type" of actor that Nintendo wants for Link, with the movie looking to cast a young actor for it.
Scobell is famous for his massive lead role as Percy Jackson, the young Demigod beginning his journey over at Camp Half-Blood, set to premiere on Disney+ by December 2023 in the titular novel adaptation, Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
However, as per the insider, Scobell is only the blueprint or basis for Link, but chances are Nintendo might not cast the young talent for this movie.
Will Nintendo Bring an Accurate Casting for its Zelda Movie?
Almost 40 years in the making, The Legend of Zelda's first live-action adaptation will soon make its way to the big screens, and that means there would have to be massive considerations for Nintendo in its many aspects. First off, its casting should be game-accurate and spot-on for this movie to be a success, but there are also other factors like what game story to follow, as well as the direction it will take once it starts production.
For now, there are still no confirmations or further details about the Zelda movie's cast and plot.
The Legend of Zelda's Franchise
The Legend of Zelda was first released in 1987, and it is on its way to celebrating its 40 years in the gaming industry by 2027, with the franchise still one of the most famous to date. Its popularity is off the charts, as a recently sealed vintage copy of the original Zelda game from 36 years ago sold for a whopping $870,000 in an auction, more than a previous original Super Mario Bros.
When Tears of the Kingdom was released earlier this May, it took the world by storm and became the top-selling game of 2023, until June, when it was overtaken by Avalanche Software's Hogwarts Legacy.
Nearing 40 years old, Zelda's popularity in the gaming industry is still massive, enough for Nintendo to give it a live-action movie adaptation it truly deserves, to tell the story of Zelda, Link, and the entirety of Hyrule. While its casting is not yet confirmed, it wants to cast a link that is accurate to his looks, that of a 14-year-old boy, with the current Percy Jackson of Disney+ as a reference.
