Samsung introduced Samsung Gauss, their generative AI model, at the Samsung AI Forum 2023, days after OpenAI's developer event. Samsung Research developed this cutting-edge AI model, which consists of three distinct tools: Samsung Gauss Language, Samsung Gauss Code, and Samsung Gauss Image.
Samsung Gauss Features
Like ChatGPT, Samsung Gauss Language is a large language model (LLM) that can understand and reply to human language. It has the ability to help with document summarizing, language translation, and email creation, among other productivity-boosting tasks, according to TechCrunch.
To improve the intelligence of its smart gadgets, Samsung intends to include this language model in its laptops, tablets, and smartphone models. However, the tech corporation has not yet said whether or not it allows conversations in both Korean and English.
Conversely, Samsung Gauss Code concentrates on development code and works in tandem with its code helper code.i. Its goal is to let developers write code more quickly and effectively. Going one step further, the AI model for code supports "code description and test case generation through an interactive interface."
Moreover, Samsung Gauss Picture, as the name suggests, is a picture creation and editing function. This can change low-quality pictures into high-quality images, along with other features.
When Will Samsung Gauss Be Available to the Public?
IT industry workers are currently employing Samsung Gauss internally, yet it will not be long before the general public will have access to it. However, an exact launch date is not set in stone yet. According to local media sources, Samsung plans to release the Galaxy S24 as early as 2024, using its generative AI model.
Vice President of Samsung's mobile division, Daniel Araujo, said that generative AI technology may soon be available to consumers. Gauss' integration with Samsung's devices, notably the Galaxy S24, might be a selling point if it can run restricted generative image and language models locally on the smartphone, eliminating cloud-based LLM. Meanwhile, Miyoung Yoo, vice president of Samsung Electronics' home appliances division noted that Samsung's Bixby virtual assistant for home appliances already uses generative AI, but it will not be as potent as ChatGPT.
Samsung has taken aggressive steps to guarantee the security and privacy of AI usage, in addition to revealing the model. To monitor security and privacy issues related to data gathering and AI development while adhering to AI ethics, the business formed an AI Red Team.
Samsung Gauss was named after the eminent mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss, according to a report from The Verge. Gauss is credited with developing the normal distribution theory, a key idea in AI and machine learning
Interestingly, Apple, a key player competing with Samsung in the mobile market, has not made any declarations about its version of a generative AI tool. According to CNBC, during the latest Apple revenue call, CEO Tim Cook alluded to the company's ongoing AI research but did not divulge more details.
