A new Japanese car manufacturer is joining the charge towards EV standardization, with Subaru announcing that it is adopting the Tesla North American Charging Standard (NACS) for its clean energy cars. The change will take place in less than two years, with the Japanese automotive company offering the NACS by 2025, and those with the existing CCS ports getting dedicated adapters.
This comes alongside Subaru's plans to electrify as much as 50 percent of its fleet come the end of this decade, offering a more accessible charging setup in the process.
Subaru to Adopt Tesla NACS by 2025 for New and Existing EVs
Subaru of America unveiled today that its parent company, Subaru Corporation, has reached an agreement with Tesla for its adoption of the NACS, centering on the present and upcoming electric vehicles of the company. This centers on the battery electric vehicles (BEV) of the company, and will begin its adoption in less than two years, by 2025.
The Japanese automaker also claimed that future electric vehicles released by 2025 will already feature a native NACS port for charging needs, and this will give them direct access to Tesla's Powerwall and Superchargers.
Apart from the new releases, old and present EVs that still feature the CCS (Combined Charging System) will be given adapters to connect users to NACS.

Supercharger Access for Subaru EVs by 2025
To date, Subaru's first BEV, fully-electric car in its lineup is the 2023 Solterra EV, but the company is looking to expand more of that in the coming years, and by 2025, it will already feature the NACS port without the need for adapters.
Apart from the NACS port, Subaru will also gain access to the Superchargers, with the company allowed to co-charge on its 12,000 and growing locations in the US.
Tesla NACS Adoptions
It is undeniable that Tesla and its NACS are growing to be the most popular connectors in the world, and this is because many companies are now joining the charge toward establishing a charging standard in the country. Its fame centers not only on US brands like General Motors and Ford, being among the first companies to adopt the NACS for their cars.
It also reached the eastern hemisphere of the world, with the likes of Honda announcing their adoption earlier this year, claiming new agreements with Tesla for getting in league with the NACS.
There is also the famed South Korean car manufacturer, the Hyundai Motor Company, which recently announced its adoption for three of its brands namely Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis in the US.
Tesla NACS adoption is growing in the world, with many companies collaborating and partnering with Tesla to get the proprietary designs for the EVs, and working on its application to their cars. The massive deals are rapidly setting up Tesla as the standard in the country for EV charging, with Subaru getting access to fast charging at home and Superchargers across the land.
