The top streaming platform in the world prides itself on featuring some of the best experiences in streaming, with Netflix expanding more of what users in the ad-supported tier could enjoy in the platform moving forward. Earlier today, Netflix unveiled the many upgrades that it added to its first year adding the ad-supported tier, and it now allows downloads for users and a new feature called "binge ads."
Netflix Ad-Supported Tiers Gets Upgrades
Netflix now announced the expansion of its ad-supported tier, offering new features for streamers to enjoy, after a year since the company launched the tier for all. The streaming platform wants to enhance the "member experience" starting with the ability to download movies and show episodes even under the Basic with Ads tier.
"All members of the ad-supported plan will be able to download their favorite series and movies, making Netflix the only ad-supported streamer to offer downloads," said Netflix.
Next up, Netflix is planning to launch a new feature by Q1 2024, and it centers on the "binge ad (wt)" which will allow users to skip an ad in their fourth episode to stream. This means that after three consecutive episodes with ads, the fourth stream would skip the advertisement for the user.
Netflix with Ads' First Anniversary
Netflix celebrates the first anniversary of its Basic with Ads tier, and after a price hike within the platform, this remains at $6.99 per month like when it first launched. It also saw 15 million monthly active users now, growing to be one of the popular subscriptions on Netflix for those looking to save and do not mind the ads.
Netflix's Ads and Pricing
Netflix's Basic with Ads is one of the biggest changes and upgrades that the company delivered this feature since last year, and it has proven to be one of the lifelines the company had in the past. Amidst this addition, there are several features it added apart from giving users ads and a cheaper subscription, as it also delivered 1080p quality and simultaneous streaming available.
For the ad-supported tier alone, the streaming platform saw a massive 5 million monthly active users, showing a good sign for its latest venture.
In the recent events over at the company, Netflix already raised the subscription prices for all of its tiers, following the dwindling negotiations of Hollywood and the WGA and SAG-AFTRA.
The price increases throughout the year have been a dread for customers and fans of the platform, as while these happened, there were also crackdowns taking place on the platform. Netflix promises to bring a better experience for the ad-supported tier, and it is delivering now with the latest promises in its announcements, being the only platform that allows the ad-tier to download, as well as this new binge feature.
