Ride-hailing is a big part of robotaxi services, but Waymo and Uber's collaboration earlier this May has expanded more of what it has to offer, with the venture now live in Phoenix, Arizona. Months after the announcement of their collaboration, Waymo and Uber are now looking to give people to experience the driverless ride-hailing offers it has, available through the app.
Autonomous rides are expanding in the country, with two renowned companies leading the service, already available in multiple cities, and not only in San Francisco.
Waymo, Uber's Robotaxi Service Now Available in Phoenix
Waymo and Uber's robotaxi collaboration is now available for all users in Phoenix to enjoy, with the autonomous ride-hailing service confirming this feature for all earlier today. Through the Uber app, users may be given a driverless car to pick them up and take them to the other end of their booked ride, no longer requiring users to download and sign up via the Waymo app.
"Starting today, Uber customers can get matched with a fully autonomous, all-electric Waymo ride - with no human driver behind the wheel in the 225+ square miles of Metro Phoenix where Waymo currently operates," said Waymo.
Book a Robotaxi via Uber's Clean Energy Offers
According to Waymo, "When an Uber customer requests an UberX, Uber Green, Uber Comfort, or Uber Comfort Electric ride through the Uber app, they'll have the option to confirm a ride in a Waymo vehicle if matched to one."
The good thing is that users who do not prefer getting a driverless ride could opt out of the experience via the Uber app, and there would be no forcing the customer to get in the robotaxi.
Apart from this, users who prefer to go driverless all the way may download the Waymo One app for their rides in the Metro Phoenix area.
Waymo and its Autonomous Rides
Earlier this year, Waymo announced that Alphabet's priority for the autonomous ride-hailing company is the Waymo One service and this centers on its self-driving service cars for all. The company said that while it is not canceling its trucking business and partnership, it is temporarily setting it aside to prioritize the Waymo One service, focusing on its robotaxi expansion.
It was also announced that Waymo is expanding to more cities, with Metro Phoenix being its chosen place to bring its autonomous services, offering more rides for all. However, the Waymo One service is not the only thing that the company has brought to Phoenix, as it was also announced that it signed a partnership with Uber to let users access the robotaxis via the famed ride-hailing app.
The earlier announcement confirmed what is coming to Uber users in Phoenix, but this recent one is now celebrating the arrival of the initial robotaxi ventures between the Alphabet-owned company and Uber. Through the Uber app, users who book any ride, mostly centering on clean energy, would get a chance to experience the driverless ride, with Waymo giving them an option if they wish to continue.
