With an estimated 32% market share in the wireless earbuds segment (as per Bloomberg) and a rapidly growing consumer base, Apple is gearing up for a comprehensive refresh of its AirPods lineup.
According to reports, Apple is planning an extensive overhaul of its AirPods family, with new models and features slated for release in the coming years.
What's in Store for 2024?
A Bloomberg report tells us that in 2024, Apple enthusiasts can expect a revamped version of the AirPods Max. These high-end, noise-canceling headphones, currently priced at $549, will come with a new USB-C charging port and a fresh palette of colors. These updates aim to give users a premium audio experience and more choices to match their style.
But the excitement does not stop there. Apple intends to replace the entry-level $129 AirPods and the middle-tier $169 model with fourth-generation models.
These new AirPods will feature an updated design, shorter stems, and, in some versions, noise-canceling capabilities. Apple is making a strategic move to cater to a broader audience, offering a range of options to suit various preferences and budgets.
AirPods Pro and Beyond
CNBC notes that Apple's AirPods Pro, which are currently priced at $249, received minor updates last year.
In 2025, they are expected to undergo another transformation, including a new design and an updated chip.
Additionally, Apple is exploring the integration of health features related to hearing, marking a promising step towards the fusion of technology and wellness.
The Fourth Generation
With the upcoming fourth-generation AirPods, Apple intends to revamp its product range by phasing out both the second-generation and third-generation models.
Instead, they will introduce two fourth-generation AirPods. These models will showcase a unique design that combines features from the third-generation AirPods and the Pro model, featuring shorter stems and improved fit.
To differentiate the two options, Apple will equip the higher-end version with noise-canceling capabilities. Moreover, it will introduce an updated charging case incorporating speakers for Find My alerts, facilitating the retrieval of lst earbuds. However, it is unlikely that these models will include replaceable tips, a feature reserved for the AirPods Pro.
A significant shift to USB-C charging cases is also on the horizon, following the path initiated by the AirPods Pro. This transition aligns with Apple's efforts to comply with European Union regulations and create a more standardized device and accessories ecosystem.
Competition and Beyond
While Apple's AirPods have undeniably secured their place in the market, the tech giant faces mounting competition from companies like Samsung, Google, and Xiaomi, not to mention stalwarts like Sony, Bose, and Jabra. These competitors continually introduce new products, adding further dynamism to the wireless earbuds market.
As the market evolves rapidly, Apple is making conscious efforts to stay ahead, delivering products that meet consumers' changing needs and preferences.
