Ming-Chi Kuo, a popular Apple analyst revealed that Apple's MacBook shipments are set to experience a significant decline in 2023. The expected drop is approximately 30%, pushing the total shipments to roughly 17 million units.

Decline in the Shipments of 15-inch MacBook Air

In his Medium blog written on Wednesday, Oct. 18, Kuo highlighted that the demand for Apple's new 15-inch MacBook Air has notably decreased, especially after the back-to-school shopping season. This dip in demand has been described as "significant."

Traditionally, Apple's fourth quarter has been a pivotal period as consumers typically purchase devices as part of their holiday shopping. However, Kuo expects that it won't happen this year and the MacBook shipments for Q4 2023 will be lower than the previous years.

Why Will MacBook Shipments Decline?

The drop in Macbook shipments can be caused by many things. One significant factor is the diminishing demand from customers who are now working from home. Additionally, there seems to be a decrease in consumer interest in Apple's mini-LED technology and silicon chips, per CNBC.

Kuo also revealed that the Cupertino giant is not planning to unveil new products in the final quarter. Instead, Apple will prepare to first clear its inventory and refine its marketing strategies for 2024.

has no plans to introduce new products during the fourth quarter. Instead, the company aims to focus on "clearing inventory and formulating new product and marketing strategies" for the upcoming year.

While these are challenging times for MacBook shipments, Apple remains a dynamic and innovative company. The tech giant's ability to adapt and evolve in response to market trends and consumer demands will be closely watched in 2024.

Should You Purchase the M2 MacBook Air Now?

The 13-inch M2 MacBook Air remains to be the newest model since its 2022 debut. While you should pause your hopes for the M3 MacBook Air for now, should you buy the M2-equipped MacBook at the moment?

According to Digital Trends, Apple might still announce the M3 chip in late 2023. This is expected to be first available on the Mac Mini and MacBook Pro.

If you're tired of waiting for a new update for MacBook, don't rush either since from the looks of it, the M3 MacBook Air update won't be introduced until 2024.

For now, you can settle for the M1 MacBook Air while waiting for the M3 version. Upgrading to M2 is good, but it's better if you purchase a more revamped version of it.

Even though M2 is more advanced than M1, you can't go wrong with the latter with its easy setup process, Indian Express reported. Overall, it's more user-friendly than M2 based on its features.
