The seventh-generation iPad mini is set to make significant strides in resolving the persistent "jelly scrolling" issue that has irked some users with its current model.

An informed Weibo source, recognized as "Instant Digital" for their past accuracy in divulging Apple's plans, shares some rumors about this display screen.

'Jelly Scrolling' iPad Mini Rumor

According to MacRumors, the term "jelly scrolling" has plagued iPad mini users, referring to the unsettling screen tearing phenomenon. It occurs when text or images on one side of the screen appear tilted downwards due to a mismatch in refresh rates. The consequence is a visual disturbance, with one side of the display seemingly responding faster than the other.

Apple contends that this behavior is normal for LCD iPads, attributing it to the slight delay between the refresh of lines at the top and bottom of the screen. However, this peculiar effect becomes more conspicuous on the smaller screen of the iPad mini.

Notably, "jelly scrolling" primarily surfaces when the iPad mini is in portrait orientation. Landscape orientation scrolling has largely remained unaffected, signifying a vertical refresh issue.

The most recent rumor hints at a promising solution to this problem: Apple intends to rotate the screen assembly, significantly reducing the "jelly scrolling" effect in portrait orientation. However, the impact on landscape orientation remains to be observed.

Enhanced Features on the Horizon

Beyond addressing "jelly scrolling," the seventh-generation iPad mini has more to offer. It will be powered by the A16 Bionic chip, ensuring enhanced performance and capabilities. Additionally, front camera improvements are in the works, providing users with even better imaging and video-calling experiences.

What the Weibo Leak Says

As per the Weibo source, the seventh-generation iPad mini is just one of several exciting Apple announcements expected this month. Among the anticipated reveals is a modified first-generation Apple Pencil, now equipped with a USB-C connector, marking a shift from the traditional Lightning connector.

Furthermore, the sixth-generation iPad Air is anticipated to make its debut, powered by the M2 chip, promising significant enhancements in performance and efficiency.

The "Instant Digital" source has previously delivered accurate rumors about Apple's plans, including the Yellow iPhone 14 spring refresh, frosted back glass on the iPhone 15 and ‌iPhone 15 ‌ Plus, and spatial video capture on the iPhone 15 Pro. However, it's important to note that the accuracy and originality of the shared information may vary, making it essential to consider these rumors with cautious optimism.

In other news, Tech Times reported that the Apple HomePod Mini just turned three years old today. According to the report, this might hint that the Cupertino firm is planning to unveil the second-gen version of the smart speaker soon.

As Ming-Chi Kuo says, we might see the upcoming model in the second half of 2024, if the tech analyst is right.
