Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg Says There's a 'Huge' Demand for AI Celebrities Interacting With Fans, Believes It Could Be the 'Next' Big Thing

Mark Zuckerberg said there could be a high demand for AI celebrities in the near future.

Mark Zuckerberg is jump-starting the metaverse with the help of Meta's new artificial intelligence (AI) tools and celebrity-endorsed digital assistants. According to the Meta CEO, he believes that there would be a "huge need" for what he described as the AI versions of celebrities.

Mark Zuckerberg Said AI Versions of Celebrities Could Interact With Fans

According to Business Insider, Mark Zuckerberg told The Verge Wednesday that there could be a massive demand for AI versions of certain celebrities. That would mean these AI celebrities could interact with their fans.

Zuckerberg used Kylie Jenner as an example. He said in the interview that there were a lot of people who wanted to talk to Kylie. He also mentioned that Kylie wants to cultivate her very own community. However, the main problem was that there were just limited hours in a day.

This is where an AI version could come in. It would allow AI versions of celebrities to interact with their fans at scale. Zuckerberg noted that AI could serve as an assistant to celebrities and would be fun for people to interact with.

"It'll be clear to people that they're not interacting with the physical Kylie Jenner; it would be kind of an AI version," he said.

The Risks of This Technology Is the AI Versions of Celebrities Could Say Controversial Things

However, Mark Zuckerberg noted that this technology could be "more of a 'next year' thing." It was due to brand safety concerns regarding what the AI versions of these celebrities could say.

The risk could be that the AI versions of celebrities might make problematic statements, which would reflect poorly on the stars. Zuckerberg also mentioned that this type of technology did not exist yet. And if it did, the technology still had to be trained.

The Meta CEO pointed out the different limitations when it comes to the current AI technology available. The Verge uploaded the video of the interview on YouTube, which tackled many questions regarding Threads, AI, and even Elon Musk.

Meta Already Has 28 Different Personalities for Its AI Chatbots

So far, Meta has revealed that there are 28 different personalities being developed for its AI chatbots. This revelation happened during the recent Meta Connect event, where other details were also announced.

Although Mark Zuckerberg used Kylie Jenner as an example, her sister, Kendall Jenner, was actually one of the celebrities who expressed likeness to the AI characters. Other celebrities include Snoop Dogg, Paris Hilton, and even Tom Brady. As for Kendall's AI personality, her AI persona is named Billie.

Despite the excitement around the news, it was reported that this was not the first time that this type of technology has been hyped around with the possibility of AI performers.

So far, there have already been many viral AI-generated deepfakes and music on social media. Back in April, Canadian singer Grimes, the ex of Elon Musk, said that she would split her royalties 50/50 with anyone who was successful in using her voice in an AI-generated song.
