LG Display Mass Produces Flexible OLED Panels for 17-Inch Laptops: Anticipation in Market Demand?

Find out more about the LG Display's flexible OLED panels.

LG Display Co has been spotted ramping up its foray when it comes to the foldable OLED display markets. This comes as it's accelerating its charge into laptops that pack high-luminance technology.

LG Starts Mass-Producing Its OLED Panels Designed for Its 17-Inch Foldable Laptops

According to the story by KED Global, the display maker reportedly released an announcement sharing how it had started mass-producing its OLED panels designed for 17-inch foldable laptops. It was noted that the laptops were revealed during the CES 2023 event in January for the first time ever.

Upon its revelation, it was revealed that the company's Tandem OLED reportedly adds an extra organic emitting layer that is important for brighter screens. Tandem organic light-emitting diode (OLED) is also capable of dispersing energy across OLED components.

The New Screens Come with Additional Tandem OLED Abilities, Guaranteeing Longer Lifespans

According to LG Display, due to Tandem OLED's abilities, allow for the OLED screens to be more stable and come with a longer lifespan compared to older technology. Some changes made to the production involve the display maker reducing the curvature of the folding part to just 3R.

This means bending over the circle to a degree of 3 millimeters, resulting in a slim design for a foldable display. By doing so, the technology effectively minimizes creases while also delivering a very high resolution and contrast ratio.

The LG Screen Reaches 17-Inches When Fully Extended But Folds to 12.3-Inches When Folded

It was also revealed that with the screen fully extended, LG's brand-new 17-inch laptops would be able to achieve an aspect ratio of 4:3. When users fold the device in half, the laptop would only get an aspect ratio of 3:2 and become a simple 12.3-inch monitor.

So far, LG Display has been expanding into the foldable display market with the help of its 17-inch laptops. This camera was after the company launched the first-ever foldable OLED laptops back in 2020, as also highlighted on PR Newswire.

Previous OLED Displays Only Reached 13.3 Inches with LG Ramping Up Sizes with the Help of New Tech

During that time, the foldable OLED displays were only for 13.3-inch laptops. LG has decided to bolster supplies of different foldable OLED displays with the help of innovative technologies. This is exactly why the company is ramping up its efforts when it comes to Tandem OLED as well as other special folding structures.

As seen on OLED-Info, it was noted that LG Display would be mass-producing its 17-inch foldable OLED laptops with a screen resolution of 2560 x 1920 pixels. This comes as the new architecture is said to increase the timeframe of the OLED displays.

With the new technology, LG Display could be anticipating an increase in demand when it comes to foldable screens. This is because when unfolded, the laptop becomes extremely useful when it comes to many productivity tasks like going on Zoom while making or editing a document and others.
