Cancelled KOTOR 2 DLC Leads to Class Action Lawsuit by Star Wars Fans

Star Wars fans have taken legal action against the company after it previously promised the DLC but then dropped it. This comes as KOTOR 2 still needs to be completed, just like what happened with the game on different platforms.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Nintendo Switch Restored Content Mod DLC Cancelled

According to the story by The Gamer, the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 - Sith Lords game was previously ported to the Nintendo Switch in 2022. This game the life to what was described as an "often-overlooked sequel."

However, the announcement trailer reportedly revealed that the Restored Content Mod would be available for users as a DLC. This resulted in fans telling users it was the best way for players to play the game.

It was then revealed that behind the scenes, developers of the game have actually canceled the DLC. This resulted in KOTOR 2 being left unfinished, just like it was on other platforms.

Fans have Decided to Sue Developer Aspyr Media and Publisher Saber Interactive

The article by The Gamer revealed that fans have decided to mobilize and officially launch a class action lawsuit. The lawsuit will be launched against the game's developer, Aspyr Media, as well as its publisher, Saber Interactive.

It was noted that the lawsuit would be comprised of many fans who reportedly bought the KOTOR 2 title on Switch. The suit argued that the only reason that they purchased it was because of the DLC.

The suit also argues that Aspyr and Saber were what was described as "legally obligated to provide refunds." Some buyers said they had never even played the game before since they were still waiting for the restored content.

Malachi Mickelonis v. Aspyr Media Case Launched with Defendants Given Until Oct 4 to Respond

The case was called Malachi Mickelonis v. Aspyr Media, Inc. et al., which can be spotted on Truth In Advertising and viewed online. As per its posting, it was revealed that the suit wasn't really new since it was filed back in July.

Ray Kim, the lawyer of the fans, demanded a jury trial with the defendants given a response period of up to October 4. The lawsuit highlights how Aspyr and Saber, which were named the defendants, advertised KOTOR in 2022 to users of Nintendo Switch as having what was described as "Restored Content DLC.

Plaintiffs Shared How They Felt 'Duped' and Some of Them Didn't Even Play the Game

It was then revealed that the plaintiff as well as multiple other consumers were excited about the new content which was advertised as "coming soon." However, the lawsuit was canceled on June 2, with the plaintiffs feeling "duped."

The plaintiffs revealed that they didn't even play KOTOR even if they had already purchased it. This was due to them choosing to wait until the release of the Restored Content DLC.

As of press time, the Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic is being discounted on Nintendo Switch but no restored content DLC is in place. The defendants have also not yet responded to the suit.
